The code name of the first Z4 was BMW E85. The Z4 was only assembled in the United States until 2008. In the spring of 2009, a new model, Z4, with code name E89 was introduced.

Each time a tire pressure has been adjusted or change the tire, you need to reset the Tire Pressure Monitor (TPM). Depending on your vehicle model, here are a few ways to reset the TPM on 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 BMW Z4:
2002-2008 Models (E85 E86)
Time needed: 7 minutes
Follow the instructions below if your vehicle is equipped with a Tire Pressure Set button. Follow these steps to get started:
- Stop the vehicle and turn off the engine
Make sure your vehicle is in a safe place
- Adjust the cold tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

- Starting the engine
Put the key into the ignition slot, depress the brake pedal, and then press the START/STOP ENGINE button
- Look for the Tire Pressure Set button and then press it for 5 seconds
The “Initializing FTM…” message will appear on the display
- Drive the car
The system reset is completed while the car is on the move
2009-2016 Models (E89)
In this old generation of the BMW Z4 (sDrive18i, sDrive20i, sDrive23i, sDrive28i, sDrive30i, sDrive35i), you can reset tire pressure via iDrive. Here’s how to do it:
- Make sure to adjust the tire pressure recommended on the tire placard
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
- Press MENU button to enter the main menu
- Go to the VEHICLE INFO by using the Drive controller
- Select VEHICLE STATUS
- Select RESET
- Start the engine but don’t drive your car
- Start the initialization using “RESET“
- Drive the car
2018-2021 Models (G29)
Just like the previous generation, you can access the tire pressure menu to reset the TPMS via iDrive on the sDrive20i, sDrive30i, M40i model. Here’s how to do it:
- Make sure to adjust the tire pressure recommended on the tire placard
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
- Press the HOME button to enter the main menu
- Go to the CAR by using the iDrive controller
- Select VEHICLE STATUS
- Select FLAT TIRE MONITOR
- Start the engine but don’t drive your car
- Select PERFORM RESET to start the initialization
- Drive the car
The TPMS calibration process will complete during driving. It will finish automatically.
