It is imperative to reset the system after each service. So we’re here to help you reset it on your dash manually by yourself and without any tool.
Table of Contents
Time needed: 3 minutes
All right, today we got a Volvo V40 2017. And in this section, I’m going to show you how to reset the service light. All you need is the ok button and the Start button to do this. So let’s do it.
Put the remote key in the slot and then press the START button once without stepping on any pedal
Now we’ll press and hold the OK button on the end of the turn signal stalk
Once holding the OK button you need to press and hold the START button and keep it held till it turns the ignition to stage two
Keep the OK button depressed there and you’ll see the information light eventually start to flash
As soon as it flashes release the button and you can see that’s all cleared now. You can turn off the car and start it up to confirm that everything is done
For your info, this operation work for the second generation of the Volvo V40 (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 model years).
All engines are prefilled with a specially formulated synthetic engine oil designed to meet the demands of the engine’s service intervals. Careful consideration was given to the oil’s service life, starting characteristics, fuel consumption, and ecological impact before it was selected.
Adherence to the suggested service intervals is impossible without using authorized engine oil. If you want to avoid altering service life, starting characteristics, fuel consumption, and environmental effect, only use the specified oil grade when filling and changing the oil.
It would be best if you changed the engine oil and oil filters at intervals in the vehicle’s Service and Warranty Booklet. In this case, you may use oil of better quality than called for. Volvo suggests a better quality oil than what is called for if the automobile is going to be operated in harsh circumstances.
The 2016 Volvo V40 is equipped ideally to use Castrol Edge Professional V 0W-20 or VCC RBS0-2AE 0W-20 motor oil in its engine.
The 2018 Volvo V40 has an oil capacity of 5.6 liters for the petrol engine (T2, T3, T4, T5) and 5.2 liters for the diesel engine (D2, D3, D4) stated by the manufacturer.
So that’s going to be it for today’s content. That was a short one I thought might be helpful because it was hard for me to figure out. If you have any questions, you can ask me in the comments below. So thanks so much for reading and see you next time.

Hi Nick, I recently purchased a 2013 Volvo V40 T4 2.0L turbo 6 sp auto. This morning the alert: power steering service required came on. The power steering was not working and the steering very heavy. I drove down the road, stopped, turned off/on the ignition and the problem was resolved. Should I expect future problems and have the power steering service/checked, or is this simply an anomaly I can ignore?
