Hey, what’s up, Bimmers! This post will be about the hidden menu to reset your oil service light and some other odds on the BMW 7-Series 740i (G11/G12). And also, I’ll show you a couple of tricks to get into it.
In this case, I have a notification for an engine oil change which I had done at the dealer, but they didn’t reset the service reminder. So I figured I’d show you guys what I did to reset it. So that out further ado, let’s get started.

2016-2019 BMW 7-Series 740i Oil Light Reset Guide (G11/G12)
Time needed: 3 minutes
Alright, we’re in the 2017 BMW 740i. So we’re going to use that odometer reset button on the dash, and we’re going to toggle that, and you’ll be watching for the codes and the service changes as we go. So let’s do it.
- Turn your car into Diagnostic mode
Hit the ignition switch three times in a row to get it into Diagnostic mode
- Press and hold the RESET button
Once you have that mode set you’re going to hold the RESET button on the dash and it’s going to go bring service prompts
- Find the ENGINE OIL
Once it does you can use the same button to go through the service item and display the ENGINE OIL
- Hold down the RESET button
To reset it you need to hold the button down and it’ll ask you to Reset?
- Release and then hold it again
Finally, you’re going to press it again to acknowledge the reset and you’re good to go
2020-2021 BMW G11/G12 Oil Reset
For those with second-generation G82 or G83 models, follow these steps to reset the oil service light:
Step 1: Enter Diagnostic Mode Quickly press the START button three times and wait until you enter Diagnostic Mode.
Step 2: Access Reset Menu Hold down the BC button located on the left stalk for 10 seconds until the reset menu becomes visible.
Step 3: Locate Engine Oil Menu Continuously press the BC button to navigate to the ENGINE OIL menu.
Step 4: Initiate Reset Once you’ve found the ENGINE OIL menu, hold down the BC button to prompt the reset confirmation.
Step 5: Finalize Reset Press the BC button once more and wait for the reset progress bar to complete, indicating that the reset process is finished.
For your info, this operation work for the BMW 7-Series 740i G11/G12 (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 model years).

What if hitting start button either once twice three times and holding down reset doesn’t work? Anything else work. Oil reset.
Hi, I have a 740ix 2020, t does not have the reset button. Cuuld you pls advise where it might be or how to reset brake liht.
