Easy Way To Open The Fuel Door/Gas Cap On Honda Pilot (2016-2022)

Hey yo! What’s up, folks? Today I’m sitting in a 2017 Honda Pilot, and I’m going to show you how to open up the gas tank door or the fuel cap to refill your vehicle with fuel or gas or petrol, whatever you want to call it.

You may never think about the gas cap door on your car. It’s a car component you never consider. But when you can’t open it up, you’ll think about it. You can’t fuel your car if you can’t reach the gas cap. So here’s a tip and trick on opening up the gas door.

How To Open The Fuel Door On Honda Pilot (2016-2022)

Time needed: 1 minute

This is a 2017 Honda Pilot, and it will be the same on various other models in the same generation range (2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022). So let me show you what it’s doing.

  1. Find the fuel door release button

Now I’m sitting in front of the driver’s side part of the vehicle right on behind the steering wheel and what I’m gonna do is I’m gonna look to the left-hand side ad find this fuel release button

  2. Press the fuel release button

If I press that button you’ll hear a little pop on the gas tank

  3. Go to the gas tank

Afterward, you’ll get out and come to where you pump the gas so you can open and close the fuel door

  4. Insert the fuel filler nozzle

There is no gas cap on your tank. Filler nozzles may be inserted directly into the filler neck, saving time and effort. When you remove the filling nozzle, the tank self-seals once again

How To Manually Open the Gas Cap

In this section, I’m going to be showing you a little trick on how to open the fuel door or gas cap on your new Honda Pilot just in case you’re somewhere and you can’t get it open using the release button inside.

So for example say you’re at a gas station you’ve pressed the button it doesn’t open. There’s a workaround so I’m going to show you today how to get that open when that button’s not working.

  • First, take your key fob and turn it over press the switch that you see there on the slide, and pull the key out of the fob
  • Then go to the back of your car and find the panel that has a picture of a gas tank on it. It’s on the inside just opposite where the gas tank is on the outside
  • Next, use the key to pry open the panel and inside you’ll find a manual gas cap release lever almost kind of like a white little handle
  • Just pull the handle and your gas cap will open

Alright, guys, if you’re in a pinch and need to get that gas cap open, that’s how you do it. I’m going to post more content for instructional purposes on all sorts of Honda and other vehicles. So thanks for stopping by, and have a great time.
