For your information, this operation work for the fifth and sixth generations of the Ford Explorer 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 model years).

For 2012-2019 Explorer

Time needed: 7 minutes

In this segment, I’ll be showing you how to perform the oil life reset procedure on the 2017 Ford Explorer by using the navigation keys and the ok button on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. Follow each of the following steps:

  1. Turn on the ignition without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the ENGINE START/STOP button without touching the brake pedal

  2. Go to the SETTINGS menu

    Press the left arrow once or twice to get you to the main menu. Once you’re there you’ll use the down arrow to go down to SETTINGS and then press OK to enter

  3. Scroll and select CONVENIENCE or VEHICLE

    Once you’re into the settings menu then you’ll enter into the Convenience or Vehicle menu

  4. Select OIL LIFE RESET

    Press OK or the ► button to enter the sub-menu

  5. Push and hold the OK button

    Once you’re on the oil life screen you’ll hold the OK button to perform the reset

  6. Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

    Done!

For 2020-2022 Explorer

Different from the previous generation, now the interfaces on these cars have changed a lot since the 2020 production, so a lot of the menu buttons have moved around and selections and everything progressed whatnot has changed. Let’s try to reset the oil life on the latest generation of Ford Explorer.

  • Turn on the car and make sure everything’s illuminated on the dash
  • Press the ☰ MENU button on the steering wheel

  • Use the toggle to scroll down until you get to SETTINGS
  • Press the OK button to enter the menu
  • Find and select OIL LIFE in the settings menu
  • Hold down the OK button to perform the oil life reset
