Hey guys, what we’ve got here is a Mazda 3, and today I wanted to go through how to reset the oil life or maintenance or wrench light, whatever you call it. So let me show you the simple trick that you get with this to show you everything.
So when the remaining engine oil is low, you’ll see the Wrench Indicator or Engine Oil Light on the dash. You need to perform an oil change on your vehicle. Once you’ve done your oil change now, it’s time to reset your maintenance reminder. So here’s what we’re going to do.

Time needed: 3 minutes
All right I’m in a 2018 Mazda 3 and a spanner warning light is on in the dash. So I’m gonna show you in this section how you reset that now.
If your vehicle has a Smart key button, press the START-STOP button two times without stepping on any pedal
With the ignition on, go over to the infotainment side. So in this type of setup, you can do it two ways, you can do it by using the control knob on the center console or you can actually touchpad up the screen to go to the Applications menu
Then go to the Vehicle Status Monitor and click on that
After that, the Maintenance will pop up so click on that or push down on the control knob
Afterward, as you can see it has quite a few warnings up in this menu. Oil Change, Tire Rotation, and Schedule they all done for reset. So click on them
Highlight Reset and click on that
To pick what you need to be done, scroll and select Reset and it automatically sets it to six months or 10,000 miles
The oil life system can also be reset as follows:
For your info, this operation work for the second and third generations of the Mazda 3 (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 model years). For the latest model, you can reach it here.
The auto manufacturer writes your Mazda 3’s Maintenance Schedule, which you can refer to for recommended service intervals. The recommended maintenance may include oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad replacements, and more. Routine maintenance appointments will help keep your Mazda 3 running longer, reducing the risk of costly repairs. The following are some essential things to consider when scheduling regular maintenance. These services may not be necessary, but they help you avoid unnecessary problems.
First, you should replace your car’s coolant. Over time, rust inhibitors in the coolant will break down and cause corrosion in your vehicle’s cooling system. Changing your coolant can help keep your Mazda3’s engine running smoothly. It will also help keep your vehicle’s drive belts from prematurely wearing out. Lastly, it would be best if you changed your Mazda3’s wiper blades every 15,000 miles.
Your Mazda3’s Maintenance Schedule covers a variety of essential maintenance tasks, including brake fluid, air filter, and disc brakes. It also covers other components like fuel and brake lines, front and rear suspension, drive belts, and the fuel system. It also includes routine oil changes and tire rotations. Those with a Mazda 3 should also visit their dealerships at recommended intervals to maintain their cars. It’s best to follow the recommended maintenance intervals to avoid any problems.
Your Mazda 3 Maintenance Schedule should also include an oil change. Regular oil changes are essential to ensure optimum performance of your Mazda. You should perform oil changes every 7,000 miles or six months, but more often if you drive a lot. This can extend the life of your Mazda 3 by several years. If you’re planning to take your Mazda for a test drive, consult your Mazda service advisor for the recommended maintenance intervals for your car.
If your 2017 Mazda3 has a 2.0L engine, you’ll need to fill 4.4 quarts (4.2 liters) of synthetic oil, but if you have the 2.5L engine, you’ll need 4.8 quarts or 4.5 liters of oil.
As a general rule for the USA, Canada, and Puerto Rico, SAE 0W-20 oil is the best option for your 2016 Mazda 3’s engine. For another country, you can use SAE 5W-30 engine oil.
My 2007 Mazda3 still gets me 28 miles per gallon. The current mileage is 374,000, and the engine and transmission have never been opened.
So that’s how you reset the oil maintenance or wrench light on the Mazda 3 and probably other Mazda models as well. I hope this was helpful. If it was, please share it with anyone who needs this. I hope to see you at the next one, so thanks for reading.
