Good day, truckers! Today, I’m going to walk you through the process and what you need to reset the oil life or oil change light in Chevy Colorado with a 3.6-liter engine. It’s pretty straightforward, just a few steps and some little tricks.
So we just recently changed the oil, and at this point, every time you turn the ignition and engine on, chances are you have that oil change illumination on the panel blinking. And now I’m going to show you how to clear that. So with that being said, let’s get to it.
Table of Contents
Time needed: 3 minutes
In this section, I’m going to show you how to reset your oil life light in a 2016 Chevy Colorado, and pretty sure it’ll work with the newest generation of Colorado. So first, what you want to do is:
If your vehicle has an ignition button, press and holds the Start/Stop button for 5 seconds without stepping on any pedal
Press the ◄ navigation button to access the cluster menu
Then you’re gonna hit over and make sure you’re on INFO
On the info menu, you’re gonna use the ▼ down button to scroll down until you see the OIL LIFE
Then we’re just gonna hold the ✓ checkmark button until it says 100. But if a message appears on display, you can select YES to confirm
This will apply specifically to 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years. The older model is slightly different, but I’ll try to get you a link up here.
The GM Oil-Life Monitoring System is a software-based system that monitors engine oil life. It records the miles since the last oil change and how often the car is driven. This system also monitors engine temperature, mileage, and engine loads. It can also record the number of turns in the engine.
The oil-life system automatically adjusts the oil-change interval based on your driving habits, engine characteristics, and climate. Driving mainly on the highway may lengthen the interval in a warm environment. At the same time, a short trip in a cold climate may shorten it. Most car owners use a combination of city and highway driving.
The system constantly adjusts the remaining percentage of oil based on your driving habits. For example, vehicles that stop and go a lot will burn more oil than driving at highway speeds. Similarly, a car that does not spend much time in traffic may keep its 100 percent oil life percentage for longer.
Synthetic oil is recommended for the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. 5 quarts of 5W-20 oil are required for the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine. The 2.8L 4-cylinder and the 3.6L V6 may use up to 6 quarts of 5W-30.
DEX-COOL is a coolant used in the 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. It holds roughly 9.6 quarts in a 2.4-liter engine and 11.2 quarts in a 3.6-liter engine.
So that’s how you reset it. I hope this helps everybody. If there are any questions or comments concern good, leaves them in the comments box. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, and as always, thanks for reading, and have a great day.
