Can you trust Oil Life Monitoring System?

The GM Oil-Life Monitoring System is a software-based system that monitors engine oil life. It records the miles since the last oil change and how often the car is driven. This system also monitors engine temperature, mileage, and engine loads. It can also record the number of turns in the engine.

The oil-life system automatically adjusts the oil-change interval based on your driving habits, engine characteristics, and climate. Driving mainly on the highway may lengthen the interval in a warm environment. At the same time, a short trip in a cold climate may shorten it. Most car owners use a combination of city and highway driving.

The system constantly adjusts the remaining percentage of oil based on your driving habits. For example, vehicles that stop and go a lot will burn more oil than driving at highway speeds. Similarly, a car that does not spend much time in traffic may keep its 100 percent oil life percentage for longer.
