How To Open Gas Cap on Hyundai Santa Fe (2005-2021)

How To Open Gas Cap on Hyundai Santa Fe (2005-2021) – After more than a decade of being on the market and seeing two generations of Hyundai’s best-selling SUV, the Santa Fe will be a longer, lighter, and faster SUV. For 2013 in this third-generation SUV, shoppers potentially looking for a better Buy will be looking in Santa Fe’s direction.

When using a different vehicle than what we usually use sometimes requires adaptation. No exception for trivial and minor things such as looking for a gas tank cap opening lever. Are you here because you don’t know how to open the gas cap on this car? You’re on the right site!

How To Open Gas Cap on Hyundai Santa Fe (2005-2021)

Today I have a Hyundai Santa Fe and I’m gonna show you how to open up the fuel door or gas cap whatever you want to call it. Depending on your vehicle model years, here are a few ways to do it:

2005-2012 Model Years

In this old generation Santa Fe the gas cap can be opened from inside the car using a lever located on the driver’s seat front floor area. Pull the lever then open the gas cap to refuel the car.

2013-2018 Model Years

All right this is the third generation of Hyundai Santa Fe. I’m gonna show you how to open up the gas tank a gas cap. If you look in the driver-side door, there is a button to open the fuel filler door. Just pull it and the fuel door will open.

Emergency Gas Tank Cap Release

If there is a problem or it gets stuck when you open the gas cap, you can open it through a lever from inside the trunk on this model.

  • Open the trunk door
  • Locate and then release the panel with the gas station icon located at the bottom left of the cargo area
  • Pull the handle outward and the fuel door will open

2019-2021 Model Years

Time needed: 1 minute

Opening and closing the fuel door on the 2019 Santa Fe is as simple as can be. Because there is no button or any lever to open it. Here’s how to do it:

  1. Turn off the car

Make sure to unlock the car

  2. Get out of the vehicle and find the fuel door

The fuel door is located on the vehicle’s driver side

  3. Push and release the center-rear edge of the fuel door

It will pop open and allowing you to refuel the car

  4. Turn the fuel tank cap counterclockwise to open it

    Done!

Hopefully, this article will be helpful to any of you trying to figure this thing out. Please comment if you have any questions. Thank you for reading this and see you guys next time.

  • Hi. Thanks so much for the information.
Does the 2011 model have a EMERGENCY GAS TANK CAP RELEASE LEVER? If so, where can I find it?

    • I am having the same issue with my 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe. The lever is not working and I don't have an emergency gas tank release lever. Did you happen to find a solution?

      • Same issue yesterday on the 2011. Today I popped the rear panel with a screwdriver, and even searched around inside with a scope with no success finding the handle. Using a screwdriver I pryed the next panel (bottom rear) open and it broke where it appears to be screwed from the rear. I was able to reach in and feel around without success. I pryed (top rear) and broke to be able to pry open and was able to reach in and just pull slightly on the release cable which worked. I can see no manual release cord anywhere. I taped up the door so the latch won't grab. I plan to break the rest of the access panel to be able to afix a manual cable (until I can replace the driver lever which is pretty well broken now)
