How to Release the Gas Cap/Fuel Door in Chevy Tahoe
Time needed: 1 minute
The Chevy Tahoe’s gas tank button is conveniently located on the fuel door. There is no way to unlock the door from the car’s interior. So let’s go through the steps to open it.
- Go to the fuel door
Right back here on the driver’s side, you’re going to find the fuel door
- Push the door
Next, just towards the back of it, you’re going to give it a nice firm push, and the gas cap fuel door opens up
- Fill it up
There’s no actual gas cap in the new model. You’ll fill it up with fuel
- Close the door
Then when you’re done, you close this door and then push firmly to lock it back into position
FAQ – Chevy Tahoe Fuel
The fuel capacity of the 2021 Tahoe is 24 gallons.
To a certain extent, your 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe’s gas mileage will vary according to the powertrain and engine options you choose. The basic Tahoe engine is a 5.3-liter V8 that produces 355 horsepower and achieves 16 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the interstate, for a total of 17 mpg.
However, a V6 diesel engine is available for your 2022 Tahoe as part of the selection. With the optional diesel engine and standard rear-wheel drive, you can get 21 city/28 highway mpg. However, the fuel efficiency drops to 20 city/26 highway mpg when upgrading to four-wheel drive with the V6 diesel engine.
Considering its size, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has respectable gas mileage. On the other hand, the Toyota Highlander is worth considering if you care primarily about gas mileage since it achieves up to 21 city/29 highway mpg.

I just bought a 2023 Tahoe Z71. Does Chevy make a locking gas cap, as it’s pretty easy to siphon fuel from this tank.
Thank you.
