‘Ello, matey. Wassup? So on most of these newer Chevy models, there’s an oil life gauge or monitoring system it’ll tell you how much oil life those remaining to start at 100% down to zero. And now I’m going to show you how to reset the engine oil life or oil change light in the Chevrolet Traverse.

It’s up to you and how you want to maintain your vehicle. I generally go about 5,000 miles before a change in the oil, and so this is generally at 0% and a little bit beyond after it tells me when I change it. So when the meters are down to zero, you have to get the oil change, and you have to reset this back to a hundred percent afterward. So let’s do it.

For your info, this operation work for the first generation of the Chevrolet Traverse (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 model years). For the latest model, you can reach it here.

Why do we need to change the engine oil?

Oil is the engine’s lifeblood and is essential because it does several things. First, it helps keep the engine cool. It helps take away some of the heat from those metal parts, runs it through an oil cooler, and goes back to allow cool it some more. Also, of course, oil lubricates. Many metal parts are rubbing against each other; without oil, they would get hot and speedy and start to disintegrate.

Lastly, oil is a cleaner it has virgins in it, and it grabs all the carbon and microscopic metal shavings that happen with normal engine wear, and it takes it all to the filter and puts it safely, so it’s not damaging your engine. But unfortunately, oil can’t do this forever, so you got to change it now and then, and the filter gets clogged after a while. So you got to change it too.

When the PCM detects an issue with the transmission control system, the code P0700 is stored. Due to this fault, the car will turn on the check engine light and enter fail-safe mode. When the fail-safe mode is activated, it will stay that way until the problem is fixed or a solution is discovered.

So there we go, that’s how you do it. Hopefully, this helped you out and was informational for you. If you have any comments on how I could do things differently or anything you do to help improve and meet it on your vehicle, please throw them in the comments section. So thanks for your time, and I wish you luck!
