Howdy, mister! How are ya? In this post, I will perform an oil service light reset on the BMW 1-Series E81/F20/F40. If you see my previous content where I carried out service, this is a continuation.
So obviously, I’ve just carried out a service on this car, and we’ve done all the other good stuff. And now I need to reset my indicator. As you will see, if I turn on the ignition, we’ll see it says service, and I’m 480 miles over now. So anyway, it’s irrelevant, and obviously, the mileage indicator is condition-based, so it depends upon how you drive the car. Let’s do it.
Table of Contents
Time needed: 3 minutes
This section will show you reset a BMW E81 service indicator and the oil warning lights with other bits and pieces on it. We’ll do the service indicator today; it involves the cluster button and the BC button. So let me do that right now.
I didn’t start the engine, so I kept my feet off the pedals, and I just pressed the START button to turn the ignition on
Now what we need to do to get to the correct menu is we need to press and hold the TRIP button down in the bottom corner of the dash. So I’ll press and hold it till we’re in the Service Reset menu
So now we’re in the service reset menu, and as you can see, there are loads of different things in here that we can reset. Press the UP or DOWN button on the stalk briefly to scroll over the menu until you get to the Engine Oil icon
Once you get there, you can select the right one by pressing the BC button on the end of the stalk and it should come up in the middle screen say in RESET
After that, you’ll release and then hold the BC button in and let it do its little thing, and you’re done
This is just a quick step to reset the oil service lights on your BMW 1-Series F20/F21. So let’s go ahead and get started.
In this section, I want to show you how to reset the oil service light or the different service options on a BMW 1-Series F40 from 2019 onward. So let’s get into it now.
For your info, this operation work for the BMW 116i 118i 120i 128ti M135i E81/F20/F40 (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years).
Regular maintenance on your BMW is essential to keep it in top shape and driving condition. The oil, coolant, cabin filter, and transmission fluid should all be serviced. Then, get an inspection done on your automobile every 30,000 miles to make sure it is still running well.
Checking engine oil and changing the oil filter is essential to BMW’s routine maintenance. According to BMW, you should perform these services at least once a year, or every 5,000 miles. This service also includes checking tire pressure and rotating the tires. It is best to have a professional check these components for you.
Oil monitoring systems are available for newer BMW models. This system allows the mechanic to check many conditions and functions of the engine and even calculate how much oil needs to be replaced. In older models, you can use dipsticks to check the oil level. The oil viscosity is essential, as the thinner the oil, the less lubrication it provides. Also, darker oil indicates more dirt and debris in the engine.
Make sure you put the proper kind of oil in your automobile! BMW 5W-30 synthetic oil is the manufacturer-recommended engine oil for most BMW engines (except for BMW Diesel engines). However, the exact requirements vary depending on the model.
Oil capacities of 6.5 liters (6.9 quarts) are available for the 3.0 L 6-cylinder engine used in the 2008 BMW 128i. BMW recommends using either 5W-30 or 5W-40 synthetic oil.
Coolant leaks, noisy suspensions, and broken external mirrors are complaints about the 2012 BMW 128i.
So that’s how you reset the oil service light on the all-generation of BMW 1-Series (E81/F20/F40). Hopefully, you will find this content interesting and useful. More content will be related to cars and bikes, and I hope to see you again soon. So thank you very much for reading.
