Hello guys! Today in this short article, I will show you how to reset the oil life or oil change required warning light on the 2007 Ford Explorer. This works from 2006 all the way up to 2010, and this is the third generation of Ford Explorer.
I just got an oil change, and even though the engine oil was changed, it still says oil change required when I turn on the car. Now I wanted to show you how to set the oil life to 100% in this Ford Explorer. So let’s get right up in this.
Table of Contents
Time needed: 3 minutes
Okay, so it can be a bit tricky on these Ford Explorers to do it if you’ve never done it. So basically, all you will need to use is the SELECT/RESET button on the instrument cluster, which serves as both a select button and a reset button. So the first thing we do is:
Do not start the engine!
Push the SELECT/RESET button on the instrument cluster till we get to the SETUP MENU HOLD RESET menu
Now I’m going to push and hold the button to reach the setup menu
Okay now I’m going to hold down the SELECT/RESET button again to enter the menu
Then push the button a couple more times just to get to the oil life
Once you’re on the Oil Life screen, press and hold the SELECT/RESET button until “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” displays
Finally, shut the vehicle off and then start it back up and check the oil change light should be gone
For your info, this will apply specifically to 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 model years. The new model has a little bit different but I’ll try to get you a link up here.
If you have a Ford Explorer, you probably know the importance of regular oil changes. The oil keeps your engine clean by carrying dirt and other debris to the filter. This helps reduce the risk of dirt in your engine and protects the engine parts from rusting. Additionally, oil has additives that prevent oxidation and corrosion. When your oil is appropriately changed, your engine will run smoother and use less fuel.
According to Ford, you should get your motor oil changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles or 12 months. You should also replace the oil filter. To do this yourself, you can find a variety of oil filters at the shop. Check your owner’s manual if you’re unsure which type to buy. You can also ask your Ford franchise if you can get the oil filter replacement for the car.
Yellow wrench light on the dashboard. What does it mean? One maintenance or service life. Usually, this is an indication that the powertrain malfunctioned. This is an indication that there is an issue with the powertrain that the engine control module has detected. Use an OBD scan tool to check for diagnostic trouble codes.
There is a good chance it will show a faulty throttle position sensor. That means the throttle body is defective and will need replacement. Another example is the scan tool may show a P0300 misfire code. Since misfire is detrimental to the engine and catalytic converter, it is guaranteed the yellow ranch light will turn on and flash for some vehicles. In addition, if the issue is severe enough, the engine control module may set the car into limp mode.
Engine size determines which oil type is best for your 2007 Ford Explorer. 5W-30 synthetic engine oil is suggested for the 4.0-liter V6 engine, while 5W-20 synthetic motor oil is recommended for the 4.6-liter V8.
This car has a capacity of 5 quarts with a filter for the 4.0L V6 and 6 quarts for the 4.6L V8 engines.
With the 5 quarts, the price ranges from $25 to $50, and for the 6.3, from $31 to $63, depending on how much oil you need. Between $20 and $30 is the cost of a shift in labor costs.
The 2006 Ford Explorer’s transmission fluid volume is around 11 quarts.
Mercon V power steering fluid is suggested for the 2006 Ford Explorer’s 4.0- and 4.6-liter V8 engines. Around 1 quart of power steering fluid should be utilized in a car.
You should replace the fluid in your Explorer every 75,000 to 100,000 miles or every two years. According to the brand and where you buy it, fluid costs $4 to $5 per quart.
The coolant capacity of the 2007 Ford Explorer is 12.5 quarts. You can use your car’s ZereX 1 Gallon Yellow 50/50 Coolant/Antifreeze. It would be best to replace the engine coolant every ten years or 100,000 miles of use.
As you can see, this one was straightforward; everybody can do it by themselves. So next time when you do your oil change, you will know how to reset your oil change required warning light.
