How hops it? Today I turned on my car, and I get this on my diagnostic screen; it says maintenance required, which means it’s time for me to change my oil. So I already changed my oil according to what Lexus recommends, and now I need to reset the maintenance light on my Lexus GX 460/470.
I actually change it every thousand miles instead of 7,500 or 10,000 or whatever they prescribe using synthetic oil. I change mine at 5,000, and I always got to reset these things at intervals. So let’s get right into it.

Time needed: 3 minutes
Okay, so this is how you reset the oil maintenance light once you get this light and you already did your oil changes on your Lexus GX 460. So let’s get into the car to try to do it.
The first thing we’re gonna have to do is switch the ignition over to the ON position which is achieved by hitting the START button twice
Once you get everything to light up you’re gonna need this ODO/TRIP button to make sure you’re on TRIP A. The TRIP A is the only way it will work
Then you’re gonna switch your ignition back off
With your left hand you’re gonna push the ODO/TRIP button and hold it down and with your other hand you’re gonna hit the START button twice until you reach the on position
Keep holding the ODO/TRIP button and you’ll see resetting maintenance data and wait a moment till it successfully resets the oil maintenance light
This section will show you how to reset the oil maintenance lights on the 2020 Lexus GX 460. It’s a little bit different from the previous model. So let’s go ahead.
For your info, this operation work for the first and second generations of the Lexus GX 460/470 (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years).
According to your Lexus owner’s handbook, oil changes are recommended every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first.
A warning light on your Lexus GX will let you know when it’s time to get an oil change. The light comes on and flashes for a few seconds whenever you turn the key in the ignition about 4,500 miles after your last oil change. If you keep driving, the warning light will stay on for another 5,000 miles.
You may go further between oil changes when you switch to a synthetic blend or full synthetic oil. However, you may need to replace your engine oil more frequently if you constantly find yourself stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic or if you test the limits of your Lexus GX’s performance potential.
We need to review the fundamentals before you can become an expert in auto maintenance on your own. Let’s begin with a discussion of the appropriate amount of motor oil for a Lexus GX 460/470.
The engine’s oil capacity in your Lexus GX460 is 8.2 quarts or 7.8 liters. This is not to be confused with the engine’s displacement, which is the 4.6-liter volume occupied by its cylinders. However, your Lexus’ oil capacity is the amount of oil your car requires at each oil change.
For the 2019 Lexus GX 460, Lexus suggests SAE 0W-20 oil. The number “0” indicates the oil’s viscosity when the engine is cold, such as when the car is turned off or has just started. Accompanying “W” means the current season, which is winter. The number “20” denotes the oil’s viscosity at the typical engine’s temperatures.
Toyota Super Long Life Coolant is the fluid of choice for the Lexus GX.
So there you have it. When we put the engine on and check, the oil maintenance light is no longer ready today. I hope you enjoyed this content. So thanks for your time and I’ll catch you next time.
