If you replacing a spare tire with a road tire containing the TPMS sensor on your Chevy Avalanche, the system will detect a malfunction and the low tire pressure warning light will blink. When that happens, the TPMS sensor reset process must be done. Depending on the vehicle model you have, here are a few ways to reset the TPMS.

2004-2009 Models

There are 3 ways to reset TPMS on the old Chevrolet Avalanche. Please choose 1 of the two ways below according to your vehicle specifications.

With Exterior Lamp

Time needed: 7 minutes

If you have 2004 2005 2006 Avalanche, you can reset the TPMS by increasing or decreasing the tire pressure without using tools. Follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine

If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the Engine Start/Stop button without touching the brake pedal

  2. Turn the exterior lamp switch from AUTO to OFF 4 times within 3 seconds

The horn will sound twice and the TPMS low tire warning light starts blinking indicates the TPMS matching process has started

  3. Activate the TPMS sensor

Start from the driver side front tire, remove the valve cap, and then increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure until a horn chirp sounds

  4. Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire

A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset

  5. Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire

The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will disappear

  6. Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

    Done!

  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
