when you say it will not focus do you mean auto focus or manual focus?check which mode you have selected,try manual focus and see if you are getting focus confirmation if not dismount the lens and ensure all contacts are clean should the fault continue contact nikon giving the serial number of your lens,if it is new you should be covered by the guarantee,good luck,
