Ahoy, Chevy fam! We’re back with another oil life reset content. Today we’re working on a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, and many GM products from this same year range will be just like this. So let me show you guys how I reset the oil life or oil change light on my Chevy Tahoe.
I basically took all this information and compiled it into what I think is the sanest succinct, concise way to handle the oil life reset in our cars. So now I want to kind of share that information with you.
Table of Contents
The following way is the same way we’ve done for almost all GM vehicles and trucks before. This is the fastest way on all Tahoe models, from the oldest to the newest generations.
So what you have to do is turn the ignition switch all the way on and then fully press the GAS pedal all the way to the floor three times and you’re done.
Time needed: 3 minutes
Today I got a 2020 Chevy Tahoe, and this is the LT model. I think this will go for all other models as well. So now I’m going to show you guys how to reset the oil life.
We’re not going to be starting the engine up. So if your vehicle has an ignition button, with your foot off of the brake you need to push the START button for 5 seconds
Then you have to be on the INFO menu. To get there you have to click the ◄ left button to open the main menu and then select INFO on the top menu
Once you are in this section that says info you just scroll down until they give you the Oil Life menu
After that, you just hold down the ✓ check button and when it beeps is gonna change automatically to 100%
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe comes equipped with electronic navigation. So here’s how it’s done!
For your info, this operation work for the fourth and fifth generations of the Chevy Tahoe (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years).
The Chevrolet Oil-Life Monitoring System helps car owners decide when to change the oil in their vehicles. The system allows car owners to adjust the interval for optimal engine performance and extend the time between oil changes. The system can last up to four thousand miles under typical city driving conditions and up to twelve thousand miles under optimal driving conditions.
The Oil-Life System is a computer-based algorithm that continuously monitors your vehicle’s operating conditions. It is designed to be compatible with various vehicle types and has been calibrated over the years. More than 20 million Chevrolet vehicles now have this system installed. It is not a replacement for an oil change but an additional investment that will save you money on oil changes.
This system is easy to use and easy to reset. To reset the system, refer to your car’s owner’s manual or follow the above step. The algorithm determines when to change oil and displays a message in the driver’s information center or instrument panel. Changing the oil within 600 miles of the odometer reading is essential. It is also important to reset the system after an oil change to prevent it from becoming inaccurate.
For 2019, Chevrolet offers two different engine sizes for the Tahoe: a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter V8. The SUV’s V8 engines each have a capacity of 8 quarts of engine oil.
The 2017 Chevy Tahoe takes SAE 0W-20 engine oil. When it comes to cold weather driving, the SAE 0W-20 synthetic oil really impresses. During the winter months, it is often chosen since it is thinner than other types and so more comfortable to wear when temperatures drop below freezing.
So that’s how you reset oil life or oil change light on this Chevy Tahoe. Job’s done easy going! I hope you guys enjoyed this content. If you have any questions, drop a comment, and I’ll be sure to answer them. So thank you guys for spending time with me, and I’ll see you next time.
