What is an oil life monitoring system?
The Chevrolet Oil-Life Monitoring System helps car owners decide when to change the oil in their vehicles. The system allows car owners to adjust the interval for optimal engine performance and extend the time between oil changes. The system can last up to four thousand miles under typical city driving conditions and up to twelve thousand miles under optimal driving conditions.
The Oil-Life System is a computer-based algorithm that continuously monitors your vehicle’s operating conditions. It is designed to be compatible with various vehicle types and has been calibrated over the years. More than 20 million Chevrolet vehicles now have this system installed. It is not a replacement for an oil change but an additional investment that will save you money on oil changes.
This system is easy to use and easy to reset. To reset the system, refer to your car’s owner’s manual or follow the above step. The algorithm determines when to change oil and displays a message in the driver’s information center or instrument panel. Changing the oil within 600 miles of the odometer reading is essential. It is also important to reset the system after an oil change to prevent it from becoming inaccurate.
FAQ – Chevy Tahoe Engine Oil
For 2019, Chevrolet offers two different engine sizes for the Tahoe: a 5.3-liter and a 6.2-liter V8. The SUV’s V8 engines each have a capacity of 8 quarts of engine oil.
The 2017 Chevy Tahoe takes SAE 0W-20 engine oil. When it comes to cold weather driving, the SAE 0W-20 synthetic oil really impresses. During the winter months, it is often chosen since it is thinner than other types and so more comfortable to wear when temperatures drop below freezing.
