The fifth-generation Honda Odyssey was first unveiled to the world in January 2017 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Today I will talk about resetting the oil life or maintenance light on this latest generation of Honda Odyssey.
The maintenance light comes out for various reasons, but one of the most common is the oil changes due, and I’m going to show you how to reset that. So you don’t need to take it to a Honda dealer; you can do it yourself in about 30 seconds.

I’ve changed the engine oil on my 2020 Honda Odyssey, so now it’s time to reset the oil life light or maintenance minder on there. We will be using this tiny touchpad here on the left-hand side of the steering wheel to do it. So here’s how you do that:
Leave your foot off the brake and press the POWER button two times
Hit the home button on the steering wheel and it’s going to come up with some screens and some settings here
Then scroll down with your arrow buttons on your steering wheel and hit ENTER on Maintenance
Next, go to the OIL LIFE with the down arrow button and hit Enter then it’s gonna show you the remaining oil life
Now what you should do is hold down the ENTER button for about ten seconds to enter the reset mode
Then you’re gonna highlight the maintenance item and then press the ENTER button to reset the selected item and you’re done
Another way to reset the service reminder light is through the navigation or infotainment display. You can follow the following steps to do it.
For your info, this operation work for the fifth generation of the Honda Odyssey (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years). The older model has a little bit different but I’ll try to get you a link up here.
Honda no longer has a recommended time or mileage interval for doing the service. It now has a maintenance minder system that tells you what to do as you go along with the vehicle. So the maintenance minder system saves you trips to the dealership, costs less money, and positively impacts the environment through natural resources.
The onboard computer system starts at 100 percent, and depending on your driving conditions and use of the vehicle, it goes down from there, counting down to 15 percent, which will bring up your maintenance minder system. You’ll see a small orange wrench on the dash, and it will also give you a message of service due soon, or it will give you the code and percentage of your oil life at five percent. The dash will change the service due now, so take your vehicle to the local Honda dealer soon. If your vehicle service is overdue at a zero percent service pass, take your car to your Honda dealer as soon as possible.
When your maintenance minder light is on, you will always see the main code of either A or B. So here’s the explanation:
At times there will also be a sub-code with numbers one through six. Here’s the sub-item code:
You cannot reset the Honda Odyssey’s check engine light. When anything is wrong with the automobile, this light turns on. However, it may be caused by just about anything. You should only consider unexpected problems if something very evident has gone wrong.
Taking the automobile to a technician and having them scan it with an OBD tool is the best option. This way, they will be able to interpret the error number and inform you of the location of the issue. The light will go out as soon as you figure out what’s wrong.
The gas cap and fuel door are two things you should double-check before you go to the workshop. This light will also turn on if the cap is missing or the door is left open. Make sure you check this out first before going to the mechanic.
This year’s Honda Odyssey is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine lubricated with SAE 0w-20 viscosity, completely synthetic oil. The car can hold 5.7 quarts of oil.
Prices range from $2.22 up to $12.42 per bottle. It will cost an extra $44 to $147 to have the work done by a mechanic or an automobile repair expert.
It is recommended that you replace the oil and filter in your car about every 7,500 to 10,000 miles for vehicles using synthetic oil.
You should change transmission fluid about every 90,000 miles.
In a Honda Odyssey, a P3497 error number indicates that the computer has identified a problem with the vehicle’s cylinder deactivation system, according to the owner’s handbook.
So that’s it. For those of you who have a 2018 and newer Honda Odyssey, I hope you found this content helpful. If you want to do your oil change with the right tools, this job is not difficult. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
