2016-2021 Hyundai Sonata Oil Service Required Light Reset Guide

Hey bro, how are you doing? Today we’re working with a sonata, and we’re going to go over how to reset your maintenance. So we’re talking about resetting the oil light or Service required alert on all generations of Hyundai Sonata.

So if you exceed the specified service interval, you’ll see the Service Required light on the dash screen. You need to do an oil change and reset the system afterward. So now we will explain what we’re going to do, today guys. Make sure to stay until the end.

Hyundai Sonata Oil Service Required Light Reset Guide

For your info, this operation work for the seventh and eighth generations of the Hyundai Sonata (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 model years).

2016-2019 Hyundai Sonata

Time needed: 3 minutes

Here we have a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. I’ll be showing you how to reset the service reminder. We’ll be using the screen in the center of the dash along with the keys to the right-hand side of the steering wheel. So let me do that right now.

  1. Turn the key on

The first thing you want to do you gotta make sure your car is on

  2. Go to the SERVICE minder

In the top corner you’ll see as you press the ❏ button it will scroll through the menus. The menu we’re looking for is the one with the wrench on it. At that point, you may need to scroll up or down to get to the service minder

  3. Hold down the OK button

Once there you’ll press and hold the OK button and it’ll reset

How To Adjust Service Interval

  • In the event that you do not have the service reminder already enabled or that you want to adjust it, you would do that in the next screen which is USER SETTINGS
  • You would scroll down to SERVICE INTERVAL and this is where you would enable and disable that
  • Once it checks for enabling you can adjust the service interval by time or distance

2020-2021 Hyundai Sonata

So there are two methods to reset the service interval on this new Sonata. One is if you have a base model Sonata with the needles the older-style on the dash. Then the second one is with cockpit or digital style. So here’s how it’s done!

With Base Display

  • Get in the car and turn it on
  • Use the ❏ button until you go to the USER SETTINGS
  • Once you are there you just kind of go up or down until you see the SERVICE INTERVAL
  • Then you just click OK with the same selector you just push on it
  • Next, you go to this menu you could adjust the interval or you could reset it
  • To reset it you just go down and click OK on RESET
  • Once it asks you to confirm the reset, clicks YES and you’re done for this style
  • So let’s say if we want to adjust it, click OK on the ADJUST INTERVAL and you can set it to whatever mileage you want. But I suggest you set it to pretty much your driving style or per your owner’s manual. So you don’t want to set your miles too much because you want to change your oil in a timely fashion.
  • Once you’re done selecting all you do is click the ❏ button and it goes back

With Cockpit Display

So now let’s move along to the other style with the digital version.

  • First insert the key and put the ignition on
  • Press the ❏ button until the display shows the driver assist screen
  • Once you see this screen right here on your rpm gauge you want to keep going down until you see the SELECT CONTENT then you click OK once
  • After this, a new window will pop up on the bottom of the screen. Now you need to select the USER SETTINGS
  • Scroll down to SERVICE INTERVAL and click OK
  • Now you could adjust the interval or reset it in this menu

So that’s how you do it, guys. I hope you learned something. If you have any questions or comments, leave them in the comment box below. Also, please share it; we’ll have plenty more of these tech tips on the way. As always, we’ll see you for the next one later.
