2011-2017 Ford Mustang Oil Life/Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Hey yo, pony car lover! Today we have an old Ford Mustang, and we’re going to be resetting the oil life or oil change light. When you start the car up, the light pops up on the dash point that says oil change required, so you need to reset the light after you do the oil change.

Every time it comes in for an oil change, it needs to reset regardless of what it says. So that it’ll keep track of the mileage for the next time, you need to change the oil. So let’s get in the car, and we’re going to reset that light move sense car out the door.

2011-2017 Ford Mustang Oil Life/Oil Change Light Reset Guide

For your info, this will apply specifically to 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 model years. The 2018 model is slightly different, but I’ll try to get you a link up here.

For 2011-2012 Mustang

  • First, insert your keys inside the ignition and you’re gonna turn your key to the accessories
  • Then you’re gonna come over to the left panel where you have three different buttons and these are the two keys where you’re gonna touch. So press the SETUP button till you got the OIL LIFE on the dash screen
  • After that, you’re gonna press on RESET and keep holding until the screen change to OIL LIFE SET TO 100%
  • Once that is done you can let it go and start your car to verify that everything is done

For 2013-2017 Mustang

With Display Type 1

  • Turn it all the way on and so the lights are on
  • On the steering wheel here we have the SETUP button and we’re going to be the press that one first until we get to the OIL LIFE =% HOLD RESET = NEW screen
  • When you come to that screen, we’re going to hold the RESET button to perform the oil life reset

With Display Type 2

Time needed: 3 minutes

Alright, we got the 2017 Mustang, and we will reset the oil life. We’re going to need to know if the buttons on the left hand of your steering wheel are to scroll side to side, up and down, and to OK. So the first step you need to do is:

  1. Turn on the ignition

First what I’m gonna do is you’re going to get in a car and you’re going to close the door, then you don’t want to start the car but you’re gonna turn the key or the push button to the on position

  2. Clear any message

Then you’re going to come over to the left side of the steering wheel here and you’re gonna hit OK to clear any message

  3. Go to the SETTINGS

From the main menu, we’re gonna go to the SETTINGS and then you press the ► right arrow button on here to go into it

  4. Get into the VEHICLE

Next, you’re gonna see it’s already highlighted on VEHICLE but if it was not highlighted on Vehicle you would press the ▲or▼ buttons until it highlights it and you press the ► right arrow button

  5. Select OIL LIFE RESET

From there, get to the OIL LIFE RESET on the dashboard and again if you need to you scroll up or down as needed to get it and enter it

  6. Hold down the OK button

Now you can see the percentage, so you press and hold the OK button and you’ll see it reset to a hundred percent

So that’s going to be it for today. Now when you start the car, no more oil change required light. If you have any questions or run into a problem, send me a comment, and I’ll be more than happy to talk to anybody about anything. Thanks for stopping by, and have a good day.

  • This so does not even look like my 2014 mustang 5.0 set up. I did try doing this with my mustang set up and it makes it go off until ya turn the car off and turn it back on again then it comes right back on. I found that this is a VERY generic video used for most Fords of this year. So yea this sux and yes my light is still on.

  • Perfect! Every detail was explained exactly. You may need to have a Premium edition with the 'my vehicle' info options. My wife's car is a 14, V6 Premium. Thanks for doing this video and directions.
