1999-2018 BMW X5 Oil Service Light Reset Guide (E53/E70/F15)

Hi, Bimmers! What is going on? Today I happen to have an oil service code light show up on my BMW X5 (E53/E70/F15), and I want to reset it. Now what I’m going to do is, first of all, I’m going to walk you through some of the critical points of the engine oil change they recommend.
Today’s post is not talking about the do-it-yourself on the oil change, but this is what this is talking about: resetting the service light. So, later on in this post, if you stick around, I’m going to walk you through the actual step-by-step how to do a proper reset of the code on the BMW X5.

BMW X5 Oil Service Light Reset Guide
For your info, this operation work for the first, second, and third generations of the BMW X5 E53/E70/F15 (1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 model years).
1999-2006 BMW X5 (E53)
- First of all, you’re going to behold the TRIP knob down as you turn the key to position 1
- As soon as it does you’ll see RESET on the dash so you can release the button
- Next, we’re going to ahead and hold it again until the RESET start blinking
- Once it does, press the knob one more time, and reset was successful
2007-2012 BMW X5 (E70)
Okay folks, in this section I will demonstrate how to reset or get into the service reset menu on this BMW E70. So the way you do this is:
- Without putting your foot on the brake, you’re going to press the START button one time
- Then hold in the RESET button and there we are into the wrist into the service reset menu
- Now we can go through a cycle through whichever we want to reset by continually pressing the button
- If you wanted to reset the service, do you need to hold in the button till RESET? comes up
- Press the button again to confirm it and you’re done
2013-2018 BMW X5 (F15)
Time needed: 3 minutes
In this section, we’re going to reset the oil service interval inspection on a BMW F15. This will apply to many other BMWs with this same cluster setup. So let’s try to do it.
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
With foot not on the brake, get into the car key the ignition, and press the START button two times so that’ll go to the on position
- Clear any message
Wait until all the messages are cleared up but if you have error messages first clear them out
- Press and hold the RESET button
Then we press and hold the RESET button on the dash until we get it to come through to the service reset menus
- Go to the ENGINE OIL
Now you can scroll in the menu by just tapping it briefly and find the Engine Oil icon
- Hold down the RESET button
Once you get there you need to press and hold it again from that one until it offers us a reset
- Hold down the button again to confirm
Then when it asks you if you want to reset hold it again and keep holding it until you see reset success
