2011-2018 Chevy Captiva Oil Life/Service Light Reset Guide

What’s going on, everybody? I hope you’re having a fantastic day. Well, it’s another day of working on the wife’s car; she needs an oil change, and I’m a pretty decent garage oil changed guy, and I’m pretty good at not getting oil on the ground. So I’ve done it, and now we want to reset the oil life or service light on this Chevy Captiva.

Well, her Captiva is a lot different story because, for some reason, they engineered things where the oil drips on parts, and it just scatters. So it sounds complicated, but it’s not super hard, it is doable, and I’m going to show you how to do it.

2011-2018 Chevy Captiva Oil Life/Service Light Reset Guide

For your info, this operation work for the first generation of the Chevy Captiva (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 model years).

DIC Button Method

Time needed: 3 minutes

This section will show you how to reset this service light on a Chevrolet Captiva. There’s done through the buttons on the instrument panel. So let’s go ahead and get started.

  1. Get in the car and turn it on

Put the key in the ignition and turn the key on

  2. Go find the OIL LIFE

Then we’re gonna use the info button down here to go through the Oil Life screen

  3. Press the ✓ button for several seconds

Once you’re on that screen, we’re gonna hold down the checkmark button till it changes to 100%

  4. Turn it off

Once it does, you can turn it off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

Gas Pedal Method

I would say there are two ways. Another way to reset it is by using the gas pedal. So the way you do this is:

  • First, you have the car on but not starting the engine
  • Then you need to pump your GAS pedal three times slowly and that will reset your oil life

So that’s all you got to do. I hope you guys found this informative and if you’ve got any questions, please ask in the comment section below. Thanks for your time, and see you.
