Toyota Prius is Toyota’s hybrid car that uses the latest technology from Japan. Prius is a Greek name that means in front. Toyota Prius is the first commercial car that has a hybrid concept. So are you wondering how to reset the maintenance required light on a Toyota Prius after an oil change?
If you’re a Toyota Prius owner, you know how important it is to keep up with regular maintenance. One of the most common maintenance tasks is resetting the maintenance required light after an oil change. In this guide, I’ll provide you with expert tips and advice on how to reset the light quickly and easily. So now we’ll get started here.

Time needed: 3 minutes
Resetting the maintenance required light on your Toyota Prius is a simple process that can be completed in just a few minutes. In this guide, I’ll walk you through the steps required to reset the light on your Prius, including tips on how to do it quickly and efficiently. So let’s get right to work.
Put your foot off the brake and press the POWER button two times
Use the TRIP button on the steering wheel to scroll through the odometer and get it to the TRIP A
Press the POWER button once to make it off
Then you need to press and hold the km/h MPH button and then at the same time you’re going to press the POWER button twice again without pressing the brake
Keep holding the km/h MPH button while the reset is in progress and until you are told that the reset is complete
In this section, I will tell you how to reset the maintenance light on the PRIUS C (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). It’s slightly different than the other Toyota’s but almost exactly the same. So to do it on this particular model is pretty simple. The first what you want to do is:
For your info, this operation work for the third generation of the Toyota Prius (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 model years) and applies to the Prius V, Prius C, and Prius PHV. The model from 2016 to 2023 is somewhat different, but I’ll do my best to provide you with a link here.
Only one engine is available throughout the five Toyota Prius trim levels: a 1.8L four-cylinder engine is standard in all models. The oil type you’ll be using is SAE 0W-20 full synthetic. The short-term solution if 0W-20 is unavailable is to utilize SAE 5W-20.
The Toyota Prius uses 4.4 quarts of oil with a filter to meet the minimum requirements. Ideally, you should change your Prius’ oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months.
Whenever the check hybrid system light illuminates on a Toyota Prius, it means that the hybrid system has encountered a problem. You should not exceed 40 mph in the car and should not turn on the air conditioning.
Do a vehicle scan first if you have the OBD scanner tool. Write down any codes that the scan generates. Unplugging the battery for 2 minutes may help if there isn’t a scanner tool around. However, this will reset all the codes. A typical issue is a hybrid battery with damaged cells, for which the average dealer charges between $3K and $5K to repair plus $125 for a diagnosis.
A yellow triangle might indicate several things on the Toyota Prius. Low oil levels in your automobile are one of them. Warning lights like this one should be seen as a sign that something is wrong and must be fixed.
While warning lights might be unsettling for drivers, they do not always indicate immediate danger. This color is used for more significant warnings that need urgent attention or the need to pull over and addressed. As a result, a warning light and sound with a red flashing light are more serious. If you’re unsure about the source of the alert, it’s recommended to get your automobile checked out by a technician.
Yes, you must replace the oil filter simultaneously as the engine oil changes. I was changing the filter costs between $4 and $10.
The transmission fluid in the 2012 Toyota Prius is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) Toyota Type-IV. This is a synthetic fluid that will protect your transmission’s gears well.
The serpentine belt is absent from the Toyota Prius 2012 model year model. Models produced from late 2008 to early 2009 no longer had a serpentine belt. On the other hand, a timing chain is part of the vehicle. In theory, the chain should endure for the car’s whole life.
So that’s all you need to do. I hope that was helpful; there are many steps to that, so if you have any questions or comments, please leave them in the comment section below. Thanks for stopping by and have a beautiful day.

how do I reset maintenance required light on toyota 4 runner sr5 2010.
ANTHONY.... TRY SETTING IT TO JUST ODO INSTED OF TRIP A AND USE THE SAME STEPS. IF STILL NOT WORKING PRESS AND HOLD THE TRIP RESET BUTTON RIGHT WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF.
This didn't work for me, but this did: Start the car. Press the TRIP button on the steering wheel until you see “TRIP A” on the display. Turn off the car. Press and hold the km/h MPH button to the left of the radio. Start the car while continuing to hold the button. The display will show "Resetting Oil Maintenance Data," and then "Complete." You're done.
Thanks worked perfect
Finally! Thank you! 2013 prius
Worked for me, too! Thanks! 2014 Prius
This worked perfectly for me as well on my 2010 Prius.
Thank you!
Didn't realize both names would show. Please remove my last name.
Thanks!
Hi guys, 2012 prius and neither of the reset Maintenance Required light procedures works for me. My trip A is set, and after pressing and holding the km/h button OR the trip button and then starting the car (w/o pushing the break), maintenance light still appears and no reset. Any suggestions would be great!
While pushing the km/h button , start the car with the BRAKE pushed, hold the km/ h button till the reset is confirmed...
Karl,
Trade your Prius in on an Avalon!

I found instructions for 2012 Prius V at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8DyuKKQ504
There is a mistake in this instructions. You press and hold the km/h MPH button, while pressing the Power button twice.
2014 Prius V - the suggestion in this article didn't work but the following did:
Press and hold the km/h MPH button. Press the START button without touching the break and while holding the km/h MPH button. Keep holding the km/h MPH button while the reset is in progress and until you are told that the reset is complete.
I have a 2015 Prius V (Model 3) and neither me or my mechanic have been able to figure out a way to reset the Maintenance Required Message. We both have tried the instructions in the manual, but they don't work. I'd really like to be able to reset this - any insights on what will work with this model Prius?
Thank you for this helpful guide! I recently changed my oil but couldn't figure out how to reset the maintenance light. Your step-by-step instructions were clear and easy to follow. I appreciate the tips you included!
