2010-2015 BMW X1 Oil Change/Service Light Reset Guide (E84)

Hi, Bimmers! Holaaa! Today I’m going to be introducing my daily car, and it’s this 2015 BMW X1. It only comes one way in the US: a two-liter turbo all-wheel-drive, the xDrive 28i. I have done regular maintenance on my BMW X1 (E84), so I think resetting the oil change or service light was a pretty good deal.

This content will show you those tips and tricks when you’re already changing the oil and want to reset the service light. I’m going to bring a little more awareness and highlight some of those things in this post. So stay tuned for that.

BMW X1 xDrive 28i Oil Service Light Reset Guide (E84)

Time needed: 3 minutes

Alright, we’ve got a BMW X1. It’s a 2015 model with an E84 body, and now we’re going to reset the oil service light. So what you’re going to have to do is:

  1. Turn on your car without starting the engine

Turn the ignition on and let the vehicle stop showing you all the message light

  2. Press and hold the RESET button

As soon as he reaches the time and degrees screen, you simply hold the RESET button down until the service menu comes up

  3. Go to the ENGINE OIL

When you’ve reached a service menu now, you will have to navigate through the menu with the toggle on the left stalk. So with the up or down arrow, you can scroll through the service menu and find the ENGINE OIL

  4. Hold down the BC button

Now to reset it what we’re going to have to do is to press the BC button on the end of the stalk and hold it down till RESET appears

  5. Release and then hold the BC button again

As soon as it does, release and hold the BC button one more time to confirm it

This will apply specifically to 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 model years. The newer model is slightly different, but I’ll try to get you a link up here.

BMW X1 Routine Maintenance Service

If you want to ensure your BMW runs smoothly, then it’s time to perform routine maintenance. You should change your oil, check the coolant level, change the cabin filters and change the transmission fluid. Then, you should have your car inspected every 30,000 miles to ensure it’s working correctly.

Check coolant level

Checking your BMW’s coolant level is an essential part of routine maintenance. If your car shows a low coolant level warning light, you should stop immediately at a safe location. This will help you avoid possible accidents and damage to your car. Also, you should check your coolant level before you drive your vehicle.

Usually, you will find the coolant reservoir on the left side of the engine. Refer to your owner’s manual for details. Remove the cap and check the level of the coolant. If the coolant level is too low, you can mix some water to raise it. Alternatively, you can use premixed BMW coolant to fill up the vehicle.

Oil Change

Changing the oil in your BMW is a crucial part of maintaining the performance and longevity of your vehicle. It will ensure that all internal components of your engine are functioning correctly and prevent dirt from collecting inside. Furthermore, frequent oil changes will improve fuel economy and reduce emissions. BMW recommends that you change the oil at least once a year.

BMW offers several maintenance programs, but the best option is to follow the recommended schedules. A reputable BMW repair shop can advise you on the recommended service intervals for your vehicle. They can also inform you about other necessary maintenance measures, such as intake carbon cleaning. Following the recommended BMW fluids and routine maintenance schedule can lower the risk of expensive repairs or replacements.
