Hiya Bro, peace be with you. Today I’ll show you how to reset the Acura TL’s service minder light or oil life monitor system. So when your oil life is 5%, once it hits 15%, you’ll get this wrench, and it’ll say Service due soon, and it will go to Service due now.
That’s where we’re at on this vehicle, and now we’ve got the B13 service showing. Each letter and number represents what services are due. B is for engine oil and oil filter change, 1 is for tire rotation, and 3 is for fluid transmission service. So let’s start the reset procedure.
Table of Contents
Time needed: 3 minutes
Alright, in this section we’re going to reset the oil life on the old Acura TL. So here’s what we’re gonna do:
This Acura has a START button so just hit the start button twice without you put on the brake
Keep pressing the ▲ UP button until you get your oil life or Service minder screen
Then press the SEL/RESET button and hold it down for just over ten seconds or until you run into the Reset menu
After that hit the ▲ UP button to highlight the RESET area and then hit the SEL/RESET button to confirm it
For your info, this operation work for the third and fourth generations of the Acura TL (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 model years).
To maintain your Acura, you should follow recommended service intervals. These intervals are generally every 7500 miles. They will cover a few essential basic services, including engine oil and filter changes. These intervals can also include inspections of cabin air filters, brake lines, hoses, and drive axle boots and seals. You should also check the condition of the brake pads and adjust your parking brake.
Your Acura has a system called the Maintenance Minder that will automatically adjust maintenance intervals based on the type of driving you do. For example, if you go on mild highways in a warm climate, your break may be longer than 3,000 miles. On the other hand, if you drive in cold temperatures, your interval may be shorter. But most people combine highway driving and city driving and find that maintenance intervals fall between 6,000 and 8,000 miles.
Acura’s Maintenance Minder algorithm can also determine when it’s time to change engine oil. It uses several factors, including driving conditions, ambient temperature, and average speed, to determine the most effective oil change intervals. It will also recommend changing your tires, oil, and transmission fluid.
Changing the oil on your own is an excellent option to save money on auto maintenance. To get the best performance out of the engine in a 2005 Acura TL, you’ll need to use Advanced Full Synthetic 5W-20 Motor Oil.
For anyone wondering, the Acura TL takes 4.3 L or about 4.5 US quarts of engine oil.
So that’s it, folks. When you go through the different informational items, it’ll say oil life is 100%, and you’re good for your next oil change. If you have any other cars you’d like me to do on the reset procedures, please comment below, and I’ll try to get to those next. So thanks for your time, and have a good rest of your day.
