2009-2017 Jeep Patriot Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Hi! At least we meet for the first time for the last time! Today we were working on a 2015 Jeep Patriot four-cylinder automatic front-wheel drive, and we just did an oil change. So we decided to make a content of how to reset the oil change required light on this Jeep Patriot.

So we’re going to go through the process that I use to change the oil and it gets a caveat here I’m not a mechanic this is just the way I reset my oil light. That’s a fairly basic job and pretty much anybody can do it. So let’s get to it.

Easy Way To Reset Oil Change Light in Jeep Patriot

So basically, to get that light off, you just turned the key to the run position, and then you’re going to take your foot on the gas pedal and press it three times. After that, you’ll hear the ding which means your maintenance oil reset is all reset and ready to go until the following oil change.

If that doesn’t work the first time, just try it again a couple of times until it says the system is ok. For your info, this operation work for the first generation of the Jeep Patriot (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 model years).

Jeep Patriot Oil Change Reminder System

One of the cool things about the Jeep Patriot is the oil life reminder system built right into your gauge cluster. It’s actually a duty cycle-based system. What I mean by that is it’s not simply a timer that you’re resetting that’s going to trip in a set number of miles or a set time from your last oil change, but it’s actually monitoring the style of driving that you’re doing with your Jeep.

So if you’re somebody who’s simply driving around town doing some highway miles, those are pretty easy miles on the engine, and that’s going to give you a longer oil life. Now, if you’re going through a lot of stop-and-go traffic or doing a lot of off-road miles, that will significantly decrease your oil’s life. 

Oil change intervals

Now the owner’s manual indicates a frequency between 3,500 miles and 10,000 miles, the maximum that you could get a reminder on the dash that it’s time to change your oil. Of course, 10,000 miles is the maximum amount of time you should ever let go between oil changes or at about twelve months, whichever comes first. 

I’m sure most of us will see that oil change reminder system pop up long before then, and of course when you do that every time you start your Jeep Patriot. When it’s time for an oil change, you’ll get a little message that appears on your cluster screen, letting you know it’s time for an oil change.

Check other maintenance items

Every time you do an oil change on your Jeep Patriot, it’s also an excellent time to check out some other routine maintenance items like rotating your tires. Check to make sure that your battery cables are not only clean but also tight. It’s also a great time to inspect and replace, if need be, you’re under hood engine air filter or your interior cabin air filters.
