What is the oil life indicator based on?
The Chevrolet oil life monitoring system uses a computer algorithm to determine when your car needs an oil change. The algorithm uses millions of test miles to calibrate the system. Once calibrated, it adjusts the interval based on driving habits and climate conditions. A warning light or message reminder will appear on the dashboard to remind you when it’s time to change the oil.
In addition to determining when the oil needs changing, an oil life monitor can recommend a new oil change. It often recommends the oil change after a certain amount of miles, saving you time and money. People would change their oil every few thousand miles or so in the past. Today, oil life monitors are more advanced and based on actual engine data.
