It is a clone of the Seat Arosa, appeared a year earlier. It was manufactured in the Forest plant in Belgium. The Volkswagen Lupo is a small city car that was marketed one year after the Seat Arosa in October 1998 and is supposed to compete with the Renault Twingo. Same as the technical and aesthetic Arosa with a few details, it differed only on the tariff level.
In September 2000, the Lupo loses its aesthetic advantage on the Arosa at the restyling of the latter adopts a front much more expressive and the same dashboard as the VW. Unlike the Seat, the Lupo will never be restylée and its front will be even taken again in the design of the Polo IV in its phase “1”. The only aesthetic touch-ups brought in are minor and have only concerned new saddlery and the replacement of the headrests filled with openwork headrests to improve visibility.
