Resetting the User Memory in Yamaha MO6/ MO8 Synthesizer

Looking to create a more affordable keyboard version of their Motif range of workstations, Yamaha have pared back the spec of the Motif ES a little — though not much — to create the M06 and M08. The Yamaha MO6/MO8 is a music production synthesizer that comes in two sizes. Two models are available — the 61-note synth-action M06 and the 88-note ‘balanced hammer’ weighted-action M08, firmly based upon the previous models — but this time, Yamaha have aimed them more towards the semi-professional and home/project studio markets. It comes with 175MB of waveform memory, 64 voices of polyphony (124 Max in sequencer), 512 preset programs with 256 User voice and 129 GM voice, over 1700 arpeggio programs, and over 18 different filter types navigated through the 240×64 LCD display.

According to several user reviews, they have praised it for the extremely versatile, great-sounding synth;  Full range of excellent Motif effects; Studio Manager and editing software allow full integration with compatible DAWs; Easy data backup with USB storage devices; Highly capable linear/pattern-based sequencer; That arpeggiator is still so much fun! Also, users have complained it for No ribbon controller, breath controller input or keyboard aftertouch; Not expandable with PLG voice boards; Stereo outputs only, and no mLAN expansion; Only three insert effects available in Performance/Mixer modes; 64-note polyphony is conservative by modern sample-based standards.

Factory Reset:

To reset your Yamaha MO6/ MO8 to it’s factory settings, first press the [UTILITY] button. Then press the [JOB] button to enter the “Utility Job” mode, and press the [ENTER] button. When the display prompts you for confirmation, press the [INC/YES] button to execute the function.

Warning! When you execute this procedure, all the Voice, Performance, Song, Pattern, and system setting in the Utility mode you created will be erased. Do not use this function unless you are certain that you want to do this. This procedure also applies to the MO8 unit. Hopefully the article of “Resetting the User Memory in Yamaha MO6 Synthesizer” can help you.

  • My mo6 recently fell from a leaning-position onto hard ceremic flooring. There is no physical cracks or damaging but I'm afraid of possible technical damage and/or offsets/difficulties. As a result of the fall, when I hit the power button, it displays the graphical-flash interactive intro followed by the loading sequence of the presets & programing data but then it totally freezes in a non-responsive state showing only one sound-name on the display but totally unresponsive to any button or key-commands. I've never had this mal-function before this incident. Is there an alternate way of resetting it to factory settings besidses the "Utility/Job etc"- directed way?

    Thank you in advance.
