It’s a Keyboard/Midi controller: a keytar. The Vortex features a three-octave keyboard transmitting both velocity and aftertouch, wrapped in a sleek high-grade plastic case—think fancy laptop. The rubber buttons and trigger pads have a nice tactile feel, and most sport blue LEDs at their edges, a nice detail when playing on dark stages. As well as the 37 keys, Vortex also gives you a MIDI-assignable accelerometer that can be triggered by tilting the neck, eight drum pads, a finger-controlled MIDI-assignable touchstrip and volume, sustain and pitch controls.
According to several user reviews, they have praised Alesis Vortex for the solid build quality; Large variety of assignable MIDI controllers including a ribbon and accelerometer (neck tilt detection); Control assignments and splits are easy to make and can be saved; Keys sense aftertouch. Also, some users have complained it for no internal sounds; it’s a controller only; Accelerometer has somewhat fussy tilt response.
Warning! This operation will cause all patches will restore to their default settings. Do not use this function unless you are certain that you want to do this. Hopefully the article of “Resetting Patches in Alesis Vortex USB/MIDI Keytar Controller” can help you.
