2003-2023 VW Volkswagen Touareg Oil Change/Service Light Reset Guide
|Last Updated on August 21, 2022 by Nick
What’s up, guys, and welcome back to my site. Today we are doing an oil change, or service light reset on my newly acquired VW Volkswagen Touareg. As you know, I do all the service myself, so that means that I have to reset the service reminder manually.
Doing an oil change on time is cheap insurance to help keep your car running longer and, of course, make sure that you’re checking your oil between services. This is basic stuff, but you don’t want to go those entire five thousand miles without popping the hood and pulling the dipstick and making sure your level is good, and there are no weird issues. So let’s go ahead.

What is the standard rate of oil consumption?
All internal combustion engines require at least oil for lubrication and cooling. The amount of oil an engine uses varies depending on some factors, including the kind of engine and its age and condition. Oil consumption often increases in the first few hundred miles driven by a new engine, then levels out.
Normal oil consumption is influenced by several factors, including oil quality and viscosity, engine speed (rpm), ambient temperature, road conditions, the amount of oil dilution owing to condensed water or fuel residue, and oxidation. Over time, engine wear can cause oil consumption to rise, perhaps to the point where it’s required to replace worn engine components.
Volkswagen suggests checking the engine oil level when filling the gas tank, especially before a lengthy drive. Several factors might affect how much engine oil your car needs. Typical usage would be little more than 1 quart per 1200 miles (1 liter per 2000 km). A possible increase in oil use within the first 3000 miles for brand new cars (5000 km).
There is no correlation between the oil pressure warning light and an inadequate supply of motor oil. Chime off if the warning light stays on or flashes at high speeds (above 1500 rpm). When this happens, oil pressure is low. Put a stop to the car immediately, ensure the oil is at the right level, and fill it up if needed. Do not continue driving or idling the engine if the oil warning light blinks even though the oil level is acceptable.
FAQ – Volkswagen Touareg Engine Oil
The recommended oil type used in the 2015 Volkswagen Touareg is SAE 5W-40 synthetic oil in all temperatures.
The engine oil capacity for the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg models with Gasoline engines is about 7.1 quarts (6.7 liters). If you have Diesel engine models, you’ll need 8.1 quarts or 7.7 liters of engine oil, and it is about 7.2 quarts (6.8 liters) for the Hybrid models.
So that’s how you reset the service o oil change light on the VW Volkswagen Touareg. I can see that the oil change or service interval is now updated, and my oil is good for another ten thousand miles or a year. So thanks for reading and happy motoring.
