Morning! So good to see ya, good looking! In today’s episode, I want to talk about something very simple for folks who are not mechanically inclined. I want to show you how to reset your maintenance-required light on Scion xB. I’ve owned this xB since brand-new, so I’m the original owner, and I know what’s been going on with it.
The maintenance light is different from the check engine light. So when you have a check engine light, that means something’s wrong with your engine. But when you have the maintenance required light, that means that it’s time to change the oil. So let’s hop over to it.
Table of Contents
So now we’re in the 2004 Scion xB. We’re going to be using the little screen and the trip button on the dash to reset the maintenance-required light. So let me do that right now.
Time needed: 3 minutes
Today I’m working on a 2012 Scion xB, and I’m going to reset the maintenance light. It’s going to be very simple, and I want to be the one to show you how to do it. So let’s do it.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position
Set your odometer to the TRIP A reading, so press the ODO/TRIP button to get there
Once you’re there, now shut the car off
Put your finger on the ODO/TRIP button and use the other hand to turn the car to the on position without firing it up
Keep hold the button down and notice how the light reflection count to zero and now your maintenance light required light is gone
For your info, this operation work for the first and second generations of the Scion xB (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 model years).
The Scion maintenance required system is a warning system linked to the dashboard. It is designed to remind the driver when their engine needs maintenance and triggers when the vehicle reaches 5,000 miles. It is essential to respond to these warnings, as neglecting these issues can lead to severe engine damage. Ultimately, this could leave you stranded on the side of the road.
When the “MAINTENANCE REQUIRED” light illuminates, scheduling a series of inspections is essential. You should schedule these services whenever your vehicle’s engine shows symptoms. The system will let you know when it needs servicing and can help you avoid expensive engine damage.
You probably know that your owner’s manual has schedules for proper vehicle maintenance. They cover things like engine oil changes, air filter replacement, tire rotation, and so on.
Of course, these recommendations can’t be specific to the driving conditions and weather where you live. We know how these things affect the factory-recommended service schedules and can help you make the appropriate adjustments.
The type of oil you may use in a Scion XB depends on the vehicle’s year. The 2015 Scion XB, for instance, requires either 0W-20 or 5W-20 motor oil. Check the owner’s handbook for your Scion XB to be sure you’re using the right kind of oil. If you still can’t find it, look in the engine oil cap.
Your 2008 Scion xB’s 4-cylinder 2.4-liter engine requires 4.3 quarts of oil. Because many bigger engines use five to six quarts of oil, you will save $10 to $15 on each oil change.
So that’s how you reset it. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment below. I always appreciate feedback, and we can share that with the other viewers as well. So thanks for your time and see you.
