Good morning, Fellas! Some time ago, I needed to have my rented Ford Explorer’s tank filled up for the first time. However, I’m stumped since I can’t find any button to open the gas tank or fuel door anywhere in the Ford Explorer’s cabin.
Learning the ins and outs of your new ride can be a bit of a culture shock since every automobile has its little peculiarities. So today, I’ll show you how to open the gas cap in this Ford Explorer. Let’s see how we get this done.

So are you curious how to open up your gas filler cap on a Ford Explorer hybrid version? Well, I’m going to do a real quick demonstration of this car. So now we’ll get started here.
Park your car by shifting into P and turning off the engine.
To access the gasoline filler door, use the button on the left side of the dashboard, close to the headlight switch.
Due to the absence of a gas cap, the gasoline filler nozzle may be placed directly into the tank until the petrol has been pumped.
Once you have done this, remove the nozzle and close the door.
The 2019 Ford Explorer requires regular unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
The Ford Explorer has a good reputation for fuel economy, but it’s essential to keep in mind that different models and engines may achieve varying levels of efficiency. You may find greater fuel efficiency in the lower-trim Explorers, which typically get between 23 and 24 mpg combined. A higher model level Explorer may have a larger gasoline tank, but it only gets 20 mpg combined. The most fuel-efficient Explorer is the Limited Hybrid RWD, with its combined 27 mpg EPA rating.
The gas tank size varies widely across vehicle models and powertrain configurations. The fuel tank capacity of the 2015 Ford Explorer is 18.6 gallons (70.4 liters), whereas the new 2020 Ford Explorer is between 17.9 and 20.2 gallons.
So that’s how you open the gas tank or fuel door on a standard Ford Explorer and the hybrid version. This should work with any model of Ford Explorer (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 model years). Thanks for checking it out and have a great day.
