Table of Contents
Okay, I just finished doing an oil service on a 2010 Ford F-150. As you can see on your cluster, it’s got the engine oil change soon indicator; anyway, this is how you reset it after doing an oil service:
Time needed: 3 minutes
In this section, I will show you how to reset the oil change reminder on the Ford F150. We’re gonna be using the cluster display along with the keys to the left-hand side of the steering wheel. It’s pretty simple, so all you have to do is:
If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the START/STOP button once without step on the brake pedal
Okay, so now you gotta go over to the main menu by pressing the ◄ left button
Then you scroll down with the down button to get to SETTINGS
Once you to settings use the right ► button to get into that menu
Then use the down button to get the VEHICLE and then push to the right which gets you into that menu
So once you get the oil life reset, you hit one more to the right, and then you can set it to what you would like it to be
In this sub-menu, you can set the value of your vehicle’s oil life
So when getting to the percentage you want, push the OK button in and hold it until it says reset complete
There are 3 methods to reset the oil life on this year’s model. It all depends on the type of screen of your vehicle, so make sure you choose the right screen.
Like the previous model, all the methods below also use the navigation buttons on the steering wheel to access the menus in the cluster.
In this section, we will explain how to reset oil life on the latest generation of Ford F-150. There are 3 methods with 3 different screen types here. So let’s go for it.
For your info, this operation work for the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth generations of the Ford F-150 (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 model years).
How often do you have an oil change? You can find out using the FordPass app. You may discover that information and learn how it’s computed in the next section.
FordPass is a smartphone app that provides several additional functions and car data. One of the cool things about the FordPass app does the information it gives you about your vehicle, such as how much gas is in the tank, where it’s located, and even what the oil life is.
Like many of Ford’s, this F-150 is equipped with an intelligent oil life monitor. The reason why that’s a good thing to have is because the need for an oil change is a little bit more complex than how many miles it’s been driven since the last one. This oil life monitor can measure how hard and how much the engine works in addition to the distance travel.
Let’s say that you have four idle passengers every time you drive. You might go the same distance, but now your car is heavier, your engine has to work harder to move that additional weight, or let’s say you spend a lot of time in heavy traffic. You might not go very far, but your engine is still running. To use the FordPass app to see how much oil life is left, hop on the vehicle icon, and it’ll show up in your vehicle section.
Depending on the engine type, Ford recommends 5W-20 or 5W-30 oil for the 2018 F-150. You should use 5W-30 synthetic oil in the 2.7L and 3.5L engines. 5W-20 synthetic oil for the 3.3L and the 5.0L engines, and SAE 5W-30 for the 3.0L diesel engine.
The F150 with 2.7L, 3.3L, and 3.5L engine displacements each has a 6-quart oil capacity with a filter. While 6.4 quarts for the 3.0L diesel and 8.8 quarts for the 5.0L engine.
If you remove the torque converter, you’ll only need 13.9 quarts of transmission fluid.
If you get a P04DB code on your Ford car, you should have it checked out by a reputable auto repair shop because crankcase ventilation is a possible problem.
Look at the coolant; if it’s rusty, the rust inhibitor has broken down, and you’ll need to change it. The truck’s antifreeze has to be replaced about every 30,000 miles.
So that’s how you reset the oil life light on the Ford F-150 after an oil change. Hopefully, this content has helped you out, and if you got any questions about it, please put them in the comments section below. So thanks for stopping by, and have a great day.
