While cheaper A7 has a resolution of 24 megapixels, with a low pass filter and is phase detect autofocus system. Mirrorless system’s main advantage is its compact form and light weight, it is evident from the weight of each camera (plus batteries) is less than half a kilogram, compared with the weight of the Nikon D610 (plus batteries) that nearly one kilogram. According to Sony, the sensors used in A7R with 36-megapixel resolution is the same sensor used in Nikon D800E and marketed high-end class.
