How To Reset Adobe Photoshop CS CC To Default Settings

What’s up, guys, and welcome to my site. Today I’m going to show you how to reset Adobe Photoshop CS or CC back to its default settings. And you may want to do that because things may not be working correctly, and sometimes it’s best to go back to the factory settings.

So let’s say you screw something up or lose something or don’t know how to get something back. I will show you guys how to reset Photoshop to its default settings like you just installed for the first time. So stay tuned cause I’m going to show you guys how to do that right now.

How To Reset Adobe Photoshop CS CC To Default Settings

For your info, this operation work for the Photoshop CS, CS2, CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6, CC, CC 2014, CC 2015, CC 2017, CC 2018, CC 2019, 2020. There are two different methods of resetting your Photoshop preferences.

Method 1

Time needed: 3 minutes

In this section, I will show you guys how to get everything back like how it’s supposed to be. Even if you just lost something and you want to get it back. So let’s check this out:

  1. Closeouts Photoshop

To reset Photoshop back to its factory settings, all you need to do is close the Photoshop app

  2. Open the Photoshop again while holding three keys

Then, you need to open up Photoshop again and hold three keys: ALT + CTRL + SHIFT (For Windows) or OPTION + SHIFT + COMMAND (For Mac), immediately after you click to start Photoshop

  3. Select YES

And if you did it right, a window should pop up. This window is asking you if you want to delete the Photoshop setting files. If you click on YES, Photoshop will delete the setting files, and without a settings file available, Photoshop will use the factory defaults.

Remember that you cannot undo this action. So, once you click on yes, Photoshop will start, and everything will be back to its default settings.

Method 2

This second method requires you to find the preferences file. The locations are given on this screen now inside of those locations you will find something called the Preferences file and you have to move that file or delete it.

For Mac
  • Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • Find the file named Adobe Photoshop [version] Prefs.psp and delete it
For Windows
  • Users/[user name]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop [version]/Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings
  • Find the file named Adobe Photoshop [version] Prefs.psp and delete it

So that’s how you reset preferences in Photoshop, and that’s what to do when Photoshop isn’t acting right. I hope this content helped you, and if it did, make sure you guys that I can. So thanks for reading, and I’ll see you guys my next one.
