How To Reset Oil Change Required Light On Jeep Cherokee (2014-2021)

Hello guys! Today I want to show you how to reset the oil change required light on a Jeep Cherokee. Your Cherokee is equipped with an engine oil change indicator system. So when you’re due for an oil change, you’ll hear a single chime, and the oil change required message will flash on the cluster screen for about five seconds.

The system is duty cycle-based so that the interval may fluctuate according to your driving style. So do reset the oil life after performing the scheduled maintenance.

Resetting Oil Change Light On Jeep Cherokee (2014-2023)

Time needed: 3 minutes

I just did my engine oil change on my 2017 Jeep Cherokee with the 2.4 cylinders, and now I’m going to show you how to reset the oil life. It’s suitable for 2015 to the 2023 Jeep Cherokees, but not sure if the motor makes a difference, I would assume it wouldn’t. So the first thing you’re going to do is:

  1. Put the key to the RUN position

If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the START button two times without pressing the brake and let the screen startup

  2. Go to VEHICLE INFO

Then from the cluster screen, you’re gonna scroll down by using the ▼ directional pad and you’re gonna go over until you get to the Vehicle Info

  3. Find the OIL LIFE

Scroll to the right or left by using the directional pad until you get the Oil Life

  4. Hold down the OK button

When you are already on the Oil Life screen, press and hold the OK button until the oil life display changes to 100%

  5. Restart your car

Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

The Easy Way To Reset Oil Light

The fastest way to reset oil life and is usually used for all Jeep models is by stepping on the GAS pedal three times slowly within 10 seconds after turning the ignition to the RUN position.

If the indicator message still illuminates when you start the car, the oil change indicator system did not reset, and you will need to repeat this procedure.

For your info, this operation work for the KL generation (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 model years).

Jeep Oil Change Tips

When your car is due for an oil change, it’s time to find a quality shop. Whether you choose a local or a franchise will depend on your vehicle’s model and location, but you can expect to spend between $128 and $137 for a typical oil change. Here are some tips to save money on your following oil change. Also, don’t forget to compare prices to ensure you’re getting the best price possible.

The best time to change your car’s oil is before the first warning light comes on. Check the vehicle’s instruction manual to determine the exact time it’s time for an oil change. Some cars require frequent changes, while others may only need one every six months or so. Most oil change intervals depend on your engine type, so check the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule. Older vehicles use conventional motor oil, which requires more frequent oil changes.

If you’re unsure whether your vehicle needs an oil change, you can visit the service department of your Jeep dealership. These experts have the necessary experience and training to give you a hassle-free oil change. Their certified mechanics will also know which oil is suitable for your vehicle. It’s similar to visiting a chiropractor for an adjustment.

A faulty drain plug or a loose oil filter are the most typical causes of an oil leak in a Jeep Cherokee. If you discover a leak in the bottom of your car, this is usually an indication that one of these components is malfunctioning.

I hope this content was helpful and you learned something new. The oil changes are fundamental, but if you’re starting out working on your cars, this is something I highly recommend you do on your own. Nobody will take care of your car as you do, do everything right, and take your time.
