Resetting the Maintenance Light On Toyota Camry (2002-2017)
|Last Updated on July 21, 2023 by Nick
Hey guys, what’s up? Welcome to another article on the proven helper. Today I’m going to show you how to reset the maintenance-required light on your Toyota Camry just in case your dealership or your oil loop place forgot to do it for you.
By the way, speaking about oil change, whether you do your oil change yourself? I just wanted to let you know that most total dealerships have coupons like this one which includes a multi-point inspection of tire rotation and oil change for 25 bucks, so if you want to do it yourself, you can, but for 25 dollars, I’d rather. You know, take it to the dealer, but today I’m going to show you how to reset the maintenance-required oil light. So let me teach you right now.

What Is the Maintenance Required Light Means?
The MAINT REQD or Maintenance Required light on your dashboard serves as a visual cue that you need to understand before you may reset your Camry maintenance light. The light will stay on until you take your car to an oil service facility, such as the one at the dealership, for an oil change.
This maintenance light will come back on again after so many thousands of miles, and you have to reset it. As long as you change your oil and filter and maintain the car correctly, you can ignore that light, it’s more of a nuisance than anything else, but the check engine light, that’s something else.
How To Reset Maintenance Light on Toyota Camry (2002-2006)
In the 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 Toyota Camry, you can reset the MAINT REQD light using the Odo/Trip button on the instrument cluster. So let’s go ahead and get started.
- First, you need to turn on the ignition but do not start the engine
- Then press the ODO/ TRIP button on the instrument cluster repeatedly to cycle through trip A, trip B, and Odometer. This particular one resets on ODO only! not trip A and not trip B
- Next, turn the key all the way to the off position
- Press and hold the ODO/ TRIP button down and then turn the ignition on position again
- Keep holding the button until the MAINT REQD light disappears
- Start the engine just to confirm that everything is done
2007-2017 Camry Maintenance Light Reset Guide
Time needed: 3 minutes
Alright, this is for a 2007 Toyota Camry but it works for many different years’ makes and models (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017). So let’s get to work.
- Turn on your car
If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the START/STOP button twice without stepping on the brake pedal
- Get to the TRIP A
Then make sure that the TRIP A reading is showing by pushing this TRIP button on the dash
- Next, turn off the car
Press the START button once to make the car off
- Press and hold the ODO/ TRIP button, and turn the ignition key to the on position
Press the START button twice without touching the brake pedal while holding down the ODO/ TRIP button
- Keep holding the button until 000000 MILES comes up
Done!
Once we have done with that, I turn the car back on no more maintenance light. So you have to figure out on your vehicle of its Trip A or Odometer to find out which one works. Then once you find out, you turn it off, hold the Trip button down with one hand and then turn the key to the on position until those bars disappear and you’re good to go.
FAQ – Toyota Camry Maintenance
The engine oil should be changed at 7,500 miles or once a year, whichever occurs first. You need to replace the oil regularly to get the most out of your vehicle. Routine oil and filter replacements help remove sludge and debris from the engine. Without regular oil changes, your car’s engine may develop several issues.
The 2.5L Camry engine has 4.8 quarts of 0W-16 or, more typically, 0W-20. Oils with lower viscosities work better at protecting engine parts from wear and corrosion by flowing freely over moving components.
If you do it yourself, you might expect between $30 and $40 in oil expenditures. Between $110 and $150 will be charged if you take it to a repair shop.
The drain plug or oil filter is where Toyota Camry leak the most common area. During oil changes, they are removed and replaced and are prone to leaking oil. Engine gasket leaks are possible, but they are rare in a new vehicle. To avoid damaging engine components, repair any oil leaks as soon as possible if you see them.
30 ft-lbs is the 2014 Camry oil drain plug torque. Be careful not to strip the plug’s threads without a torque tool. Ideally, the plug should be tightened to 30 ft-lbs, but not excessively. Overtightening the drain plug might strip its threads. Overtightening the oil filter might harm the rubber gasket. As a side effect, it may be more difficult for the following user to unplug the device.
The filter is positioned beneath the oil pan on the driver’s side, towards the center rear of the automobile. Unbolt the lid and remove the Camry’s oil drain plug using a 14 mm socket to replace it.
The 2.5-liter engine houses 4.6 quarts of 0W-20 oil with a filter and is paired with a lithium-ion battery to power the Toyota Camry Hybrid. When doing maintenance, a Fram filter with the component number XG9972 can be utilized.
So there you go, I hope that helps you out. Please leave comments if you have any questions. Thanks for your time and have a great day folks!
thank’s dude that’s so helpful for me as a newbie of camry owner
This is the worst how to instruction I’ve ever found. After reading through crap on the top that has nothing to do with resetting the light, it does not work. The instruction in the video is correct. It’s
• Insert the key into the ignition. Leave the engine turned off.
• Press and hold the odometer reset knob.
• Turn the ignition switch to the “On” position. Continue to hold in the odometer reset knob.
• Release the odometer reset knob when the maintenance light flashes and disappears.
Your an idiot. Read carefully and learn. It’s really not hard.
Awesome! Thank you!
