Hello there, folks! What we have here is a 2020 Subaru Forester and what we’re going to do here is we’re going to reset the maintenance reminder or the oil change light that comes on to remind you to do an oil change.
I’ve been asked recently how to change the maintenance reminder that pops up every time you turn on the Subaru. So what we’re going to be working with is the buttons on the steering wheel. There’s a down and up button then a SET button, which I guess would be the enter button. So let’s go ahead and get started.
Time needed: 3 minutes
We’ve got a 2019 Subaru Forester and are getting ready to do the oil life reset, or the maintenance reset on it. So let me show you how to go ahead and get this done.
First, without stepping on the brakes you’re going to hit the START button twice to turn on the ignition
Then hit the INFO button. Every time you press it the screen changes, so we’re gonna go all the way to the screen that says “Push and Hold the INFO button for the selection screen”
So we’re gonna hold down the INFO button to get into the settings
Once you get there, now you’ll use the arrow button on the steering wheel to highlight the MAINTENANCE and pull the ⓘ/SET button to enter
From there you can select ENGINE OIL or MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Now you can set your own maintenance interval. So you just go through each screen using the arrow key and you can enter it in and then start changing dates. You can also go down and change the distance before the light comes on
Once you get it to the appropriate date or the kilometers, either way, you would go down to SET and settings complete. It would adjust it and it would make that warning or reminder every time you turn on your vehicle disappear
For your info, this operation work for the fifth generation of the Subaru Forester (2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 model years).
You’ve come to the correct spot if you’re curious about the maximum oil capacity for a 2019 Subaru Forester. This car can hold up to 4.2 liters of oil or 4.4 US quarts with a filter.
Depending on the age of the vehicle and the climate in which you reside, the Subaru Forester calls for either 5W-30 or 0W-20 motor oil when it’s time to change the oil. 5W-30 is a fantastic choice if you live in a warmer region and your vehicle is a bit on the seasoned side. But 0W-20 motor oil performs better in cooler areas while still giving your engine the lubrication it needs at high speeds.
Including labor, the average price to change the oil on a 2020 Forester is around $110-$140.
So that’s a brief way to get rid of maintenance reminders and reset maintenance reminders on your Subaru. You’ve got an expensive machine here, and make sure you change your oil frequently too, and use a high-quality oil high-quality filter. So thanks for your time and happy motoring.
