GMC Sierra: How To Reset TPMS Tire Pressure System Light (2008-2021) – The Sierra is the name of the latest line of GMC pickups. The Chevrolet brand also sells it under the Silverado name. The second generation of Sierra arrived in the last quarter of 2006 as a 2007 model.

The HD variant was a heavy pickup. It was a beefed-up version of the lightweight Silverado / Sierra and was available in the 1500HD, 2500HD, and 3500HD models.

If you replacing a spare tire with a road tire containing the TPMS sensor on your GMC Sierra 1500, the system will detect a malfunction and the low tire pressure warning light will blink. When that happens, the TPMS sensor reset process must be done. Depending on the vehicle model you have, here are a few ways to reset the TPMS.

2008-2010 Models

If you have 2008 2009 2010 GMC Sierra, you can reset the TPMS by increasing or decreasing the tire pressure without using tools. There are 2 ways to reset TPMS on this old model. Please choose 1 of the two ways below according to your vehicle specifications.

With RKE Button

Time needed: 7 minutes

Follow these instructions if your vehicle is equipped with an RKE. Follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the Engine Start/Stop button without touching the brake pedal

  2. Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously for five seconds

    The horn will sound twice and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will appear indicating the TPMS matching process has started

  3. Activate the TPMS sensor

    Start from the driver side front tire, remove the valve cap, and then increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure until a horn chirp sounds

  4. Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire

    A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset

  5. Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire

    The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will disappear

  6. Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

    Done!

With DIC Button

In addition to using the RKE key, you can access the Tire Learning menu by using the DIC buttons:

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
  • Press the VEHICLE INFORMATION button briefly until you see the PRESS ✓ TO RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message on the display

  • Press and hold the ✓ button until the horn sounds twice
  • Start from the driver side front tire, remove the valve cap, and then increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure until a horn chirp sounds
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

2011-2014 Models

Unlike the previous model year, you’ll need TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this 2011 2012 2013 2014 model years. Depending on your vehicle trim level, there are 2 ways to do this. Follow these steps to do it:

With RKE Button

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
  • Press the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons simultaneously until the horn sounds twice
  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

With DIC Button

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
  • Press the VEHICLE INFORMATION button briefly until you see the PRESS ✓ TO RELEARN TIRE POSITIONS message on the display
  • Press and hold the ✓ button until the horn sounds twice
  • Start from the driver side front tire, remove the valve cap, and then increasing or decreasing the tire’s air pressure until a horn chirp sounds
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

2015-2018 Models

Just like the previous model, you’ll need TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this model. Here’s how to do it:

With Trip Button

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
  • Turn the TRIP knob until the TIRE PRESSURE menu appear on the display

  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

With Steering Control

  • Press and holds the ENGINE START/STOP button for 5 seconds without touching the brake pedal
  • Press the ◄ navigation button to access the cluster applications

  • Scroll down to the TIRE PRESSURE menu
  • Press and hold the ✓ button to enter the relearn mode
  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

2019-2021 Models

Just like the previous generation, you can reset the TPMS through the Trip button and steering wheel control button in this latest model. Also, you need a TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System. Here’s how to do it:

Base Level Display

  • Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine
  • Rotate the TRIP knob on the cluster until the TIRE PRESSURE menu appear on the display
  • Press and hold the TRIP knob until the horn sounds twice
  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

Uplevel Display

  • Press and holds the ENGINE START/STOP button for 5 seconds without touching the brake pedal
  • Go to the INFORMATION menu tab by using the ◄ ► navigation button

  • Press and hold the thumbwheel button until the horn sounds twice to enter the relearn mode
  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
