If you replacing a spare tire with a road tire containing the TPMS sensor on your Chevy Volt, the system will detect a malfunction and the low tire pressure warning light will blink. When that happens, the TPMS sensor reset process must be done. Depending on the vehicle model you have, here are a few ways to reset the TPMS.

2011-2015 Models

Time needed: 7 minutes

In 2011 2012 2013 2014 2015 Chevrolet Volt, you can reset the TPMS via the menu in the information display using the control button. However, you need the TPMS Relearn Tool to do this. Follow these instructions to get started:

  1. Turn the ignition key to the “ON” position without starting the engine

    If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the Engine Start/Stop button without touching the brake pedal

  2. Go to the “TIRE PRESSURE” menu by turning the SELECT button

  3. Press and hold the SELECT button to enter the relearn mode

    A confirmation message will appear on the screen

  4. Select YES to initiate the reset process

    The horn will sound twice and the TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will appear on the screen

  5. Start from the driver side front tire, use the TPMS Relearn tool to activate the tpms sensor

    Place the relearn tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor

  6. Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire

    A horn chirp will confirm that the sensor has been reset

  7. Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire

    The TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE message will disappear

  8. Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard

2016-2019 Models

Just like the previous model, you’ll need TPMS Relearn Tool to reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System in this latest Chevy Volt. Here’s how to do it:

  • Press and holds the ENGINE START/STOP button for 5 seconds without touching the brake pedal
  • Press the ◄ navigation button to access the cluster applications

  • Scroll down to the TIRE PRESSURE menu
  • Press and hold the ✓ button to enter the relearn mode
  • Start from the driver side front tire, place the TPMS Relearn Tool against the tire sidewall, near the valve stem. Then press the button to activate the TPMS sensor
  • Repeat the process for the passenger side front tire, passenger side rear tire, and the driver side rear tire
  • Turn off the ignition after you reset the last tire
  • Adjust the tire pressure in all four tires recommended on the tire placard
