2008-2016 Volvo XC60 Oil Maintenance Service Light Reset Guide
|Last Updated on September 18, 2022 by Nick
Hello there, how are ya? I’m just in a Volvo XC60, and we’ve got to reset the oil maintenance reminder or service light. After a little bit of research and watching videos on YouTube, I’ve discovered there’s not much that’s very accurate out there. So I’m going to try to make this as easy as possible for you.
I’ve watched videos that seemed very complex trying to push a little button on this reset button, but none of it worked. But this procedure will get you out of trouble. So let’s dive right in.

Resetting Maintenance Light in 2013-2016 Volvo XC60
Time needed: 3 minutes
Alright, in this section, I’m going to do a quick guide on resetting the service light or maintenance reminder on a 2016 Volvo XC60. My model is the T6, but it should work on other models as well. So the first step you need to do is:
- Turn the ignition key to the position I
Take the key and you’re gonna put it in the slot and push the START button once
- Make sure you’re on Trip 2 or T2
Then you need to be in the menu where it says T2. If you’re not in the T2 menu on the dash cluster it’s not gonna work. How you do that is through the thumbwheel on the turn signal stalk, so scroll that button and that gets you to the T2
- Hold down the OK button and turn the ignition to position 2
Once you are on the T2 you’ve got to long-press the OK button on the end of the stalk and then push the START button one more time
- Keep holding the OK button
Continue to hold the OK button until you see the little i flashing and you’ll hear the Bing and it’s accepted the service reset
- Release the button
Now you can release the OK button and start the car to verify there’s no more service light
For your info, this will apply specifically to 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 model years. The latest model has a little bit different but I’ll try to get you a link up here.
Volvo XC60 maintenance service schedule
The Volvo XC60 maintenance service schedule varies depending on your car’s mileage and driving conditions. Typical maintenance services include oil changes, tire rotations, brake pad replacement, and fluid checks. Keeping up with these routine service appointments can help Volvo perform better and prevent costly problems.
The Volvo XC60 maintenance service schedule is divided into three intervals. The first interval is for regular oil and filter changes. These intervals may vary for different models, but these are guidelines for the greater Houston area. The servicing schedule will also vary depending on your driving style. For instance, daily drivers will require more frequent servicing than occasional drivers.
Another essential part of a Volvo XC60 maintenance service schedule is the oil and filter change. This involves a comprehensive inspection of all engine components. The technician will check the brake fluid level and inspect the brake rotors and pads. They will also inspect the wheels to ensure they are in good condition.
FAQ – Volvo XC60 Oil Change
One may choose between a 3.0L 6-cylinder or a 3.2L 6-cylinder engine in the 2012 Volvo XC60, both of which have a capacity of 7.18 quarts (6.8 liters).
Volvo XC60 2011 models require SAE 5W-30 motor oil. When operating a Volvo in persistently cold climates, SAE 0W-30 is the recommended motor oil.
The Volvo XC60 has a timing chain as of the 2014 model year. Even though it can stretch, this component seldom has to be changed since it is so sturdy.
So that’s how you reset it. Do not forget to push the start button once at the beginning of the process; otherwise, it won’t work. I hope this content was helpful. Feel free to comment below with any questions, and don’t forget to share them. So thanks for your time and see you tomorrow.
For a 2013 T6 AWD Volvo XC60-
Make sure the tripometer is on T2
Push the start button with foot OFF the brake
Then simultaneously press the T2 button, start button and the OK button (located on the turn signal shaft). Hold down all three buttons until the dash reads “no more messages”. It only took me an hour to reset the maintenance required warning! (For an oil change only!!)
For a 2014 T6 AWD , you mentioned the process takes 3 minutes.
Do you wait that long for the “i” lite to flash.
I’ve tried it several times, but can’t get it to reset. BUT…. I haven’t waited THAT long for the lite – thanks for any feedback.
I have tried this on my 2015.5 XC60 T6 several times. It does NOT work. I verified that the trip is in T2, and have several times held the OK button in a lot longer that the required 10 seconds. This procedure DOES NOT WORK, and it is very frustrating. I have owned this vehicle for about 3 years now and I absolutely love it, with this one singular exception! The last time I needed to do this, I ran into the same thing and finally ended up having to schedule an appointment with my local Volvo dealer servicing dept just to get the stupid message reset!!!
