Hey, what’s up, guys! Today I’m going to show you how to reset the oil service light on a BMW Z4 with E85/E86/E89/G29 body. I’m sure this works for most newer BMWs as long as you have the same buttons.
It’s pretty easy and if you don’t want the annoying lights to be on, just do these steps; what they pretty much do is the dealers. So if you do your own oil change and want to save your money, just do these steps.

Alright, so after you change your oil on your BMW Z4 E89, I guess for the last thing, we’re going to reset the service light. Just put it simply and straightforward. I’m going to teach you how to do it. So the way you reset is:
- Turn on your car without starting the engine
Insert the key and with your foot not on the brake you push the START button so the car does not start and all of our dash lights will come
- Press and hold the RESET button
Then you need to press the little reset button on the dash and hold it to bring you to the service menu
- Find the ENGINE OIL
Once you get there you can use the little toggle on the left stalk to scroll up or down through the different service options. But you need to find the ENGINE OIL at this time
- Hold down the BC button
To reset it you long-press the BC button to give you a reset question
- Release and then hold it again
And when it asks RESET? You press the BC button again and it will reset
2018-2022 BMW Z4 (G29)
- The fisrt step is press the START button three times quickly to activate the diagnostic mode
- Then you’re gonna hold the BC button on the left stalk and it’s gonna show up the service menu
- From there you can find the ENGINE OIL or scroll the different service items by press the BC button repeatedly
- Once you are done with that, you can reset it by holding in the BC button
- When it’s going to ask you to Reset, you just hold down the BC button one more time till it says reset completely
So that’s it, and you’re all done. With a couple of kids, it’s hard to get the time to do this content, but I enjoy doing them, and I like to help people save a bit of money. So anyway, thanks for stopping by, and we’ll see you at the next one.
