Good morning my friend! Today we’re working on a Mini Cooper, and we are changing the oil on this car. So now I’m going to show you all the steps to properly reset the oil service light on this Mini Hatch or Hardtop R50/R56.
The service reminder will show on the display when it’s time for a service call. After completing the vehicle maintenance, you’ll need to reset the service minder on the information display. So let’s get into it now.

Here’s How You Reset Oil Service Light On Mini Hatch Hardtop R50/R56
It’s worth noting that the method you use will be determined by the year and type of your car (2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013).
Mini R50/R53 (2000-2006)
- Now the first step we’re gonna be pressing and holding the instrument cluster button here and you’re gonna want to turn the key to the first position
- Then I had to put you down there we’re gonna see SERVICE or INSPECTION come up on the screen
- As soon as it does, press and hold the button again so the 5IA is gonna flash to RST
- To reset it you prep do one quick press and that will finalize the reset
Mini R56 (2007-2013)
Time needed: 3 minutes
Okay, we’ve got a 2009 Mini Cooper Hardtop herewith, and we got some services light, but I’ve done the services. So now we will show you how to reset that service light.
- Turn on the ignition without starting the engine
So we’re going to take the key first and we’re going to put it into the ignition and then click the START button once
- Press and hold the 0.0 button
From here we will hold this 0.0 button right here and then you’ll get a bunch of different service options
- Get to the oil can screen
At this point, you’ll go through them all is just clicking the BC button and finding the oil can symbol to reset the engine oil
- Hold down the BC button
Then so let’s say I want to reset the engine oil then I would just hold the BC button until you see RESET on the screen
- Release the button and then hold it again
Once it does, you hold again to confirm, and then a little clock will go and then you’re done
So that’s how easy it is. Now you’ll see that they’re on the green, so you can now start the vehicle, and your caution lights every triangle up on the top right-hand corner are gone, and the service light won’t reappear until the next time to do service. Thanks for your time, and have a great day.
