2007-2014 Dodge Avenger Oil Change Required Light Reset Guide

Hey, Mopar fam. Whatcha doing? You just brightened up my day! In this post, we’re going to do a step-by-step walkthrough on how to reset the oil change light on the Dodge Avenger.

So when it’s time to change the oil, you’ll hear a chime, and the Oil Change Required message will appear briefly in the instrument cluster. You need to change the engine oil on your vehicle and reset the system afterward. So without wasting any more time, let’s go ahead and get right to it.

Dodge Avenger Oil Change Required Light Reset Guide

Time needed: 3 minutes

Alright, here I have a 2009 Dodge Avenger, and we’re going to reset the change oil light. I have already done it, but I’m going to do it again and go through the process to show you guys what I did to reset it. So let’s try to do it.

  1. Turn on your car without starting the engine

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the RUN position so don’t actually crank the car up

  2. Pump the GAS pedal three times

Then you’re gonna go down here to the Gas pedal and step it three times within 10 seconds all the way to the floor

  3. Turn off the ignition

Now you can turn it off and then start the car and there will be no warning lights on the gauge cluster if you did the steps correctly

For your info, this operation work for the first and second generations of the Dodge Avenger (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 model years).

Dodge Avenger Oil Change Interval

When looking for a recommended oil change interval for your Dodge Avenger, you should first look for the manufacturer’s recommendation. If replacing the oil in your Avenger, the manufacturer recommends using API-classified motor oil. These oils have specific quality requirements and must be compatible with your Avenger’s engine. While Mopar recommends the use of its brand of motor oil, you can also use a consistent brand like Pennzoil.

If you want more mileage from your Dodge Avenger, make sure you keep it clean and dry. Regular washing and drying remove dirt, grime, and salt. It would be best if you also regularly washed the underside of the car. In addition, rustproofing your vehicle is a wise idea for long-term use. Rustproofing treatments like Rust Check and Krown can prevent rust from forming. Another option is a ceramic coating for extra paint protection.

In addition to changing your Dodge Avenger’s oil filter, you should consider other vehicle components. You should rotate your car’s tires every 5,000 miles to maximize your tires’ life. Off-roading can put extra stress on your tires and may cause them to wear out sooner. Also, make sure to check your tire pressure and wheel alignment regularly.

The Dodge Avenger has an engine oil indicator system that lets you know when to change your oil. The recommended interval for your vehicle depends on your driving style and mileage, so you may want to check your manual for a more specific recommendation.

  • So what do you do when doing that doesn't work after 10 or 15 times? I have had my 2009 Avenger since 2010 and have never had to do it more than 3 or 4 times before it reset. Now I can't get it to reset to save my life. Please help me, it is driving me crazy and like my husband says, it is a short drive!
