2006-2015 Chevrolet Impala Oil Life/Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Last Updated on September 5, 2022 by Nick

Howdy, Chevy fam! In this post, I’m going to reset the oil life or oil change light on the Chevrolet Impala, which will also apply to other GM vehicles. This content is designed to give you detailed step-by-step instructions on completing the task.

The car has a program that monitors how you drive and when you have expelled the oil in the system. Using up the additives and the cleaning agents in the oil will notify you that it is time to change your oil. You can also hit the information button to see how much the car thinks it has left for your life. So let’s hop over to it.

2006-2015 Chevrolet Impala Oil Life/Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Simple Way to Reset Oil Change Light in Chevrolet Impala

I will show you how you reset your change oil light in basically every GM car. This is the fastest and easiest way to reset it. So let me do that right now.

  • First, put the key in the ignition and you can turn it on and see all the lights are turning on but the engine is not on itself
  • And then, within about five seconds, what you want to do is take your foot and put it on the GAS pedal, and you pump it all the way down three times
  • After doing that, you can now turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

Time needed: 3 minutes

This section will be on a 2007 Chevrolet Impala six-cylinder oil change reset. Usually, the messages in the dash say oil change due or whatever the message states. So here’s how it’s done.

  1. Turn on the car

First, turn the key on but I did not turn the car all the way on

  2. Go to the OIL LIFE screen

Then you press the VEHICLE INFORMATION button on the dash to scroll over different aspects of the vehicle by press it until you see the Oil Life percentage

  3. Hold down the ✓ button

Once you get there, you press the ✓ button and keep it pressed inwards until it goes to 100% and you’re done

For your info, this will apply specifically to the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 model years. The 2013 through 2016 model is slightly different, but I’ll try to get you a link up here.

Is it worth doing oil changes yourself?

So you’re probably wondering why you should change your oil yourself anyway. Well, I have a few reasons. Number one is I don’t like people touching me in my car. I’m kind of a car fan, and I don’t believe that anyone will treat my car as well as I treat it. Plus, places may have a lot of experience, but they also develop complacency, and they could put the wrong oil in too much or too little. I mean, it’s really unlikely, but I’d rather not risk it.

The other thing is time. When I have my supplies at home, I can knock out an oil change in any free 30 minutes. But if I have to go to the dealer while my dealer is 20 minutes away, so that’s 40 minutes roundtrip, plus I’ve got to wait for them to get the oil change done, they might take their sweet time. We might take an hour, and I might not be first in line, so you’re going to save at least an hour or two doing it yourself.

The most important factor for me, though, is money. The dealer may give you free oil changes as part of a maintenance plan while your car is under warranty, and that’s free. But I like synthetic oil in my car, and if I ask for that, they’ll charge me an extra $45. Once your maintenance plan runs out, oil changes could be 50 to 75 dollars for regular oil. So with the synthetic upcharge, I’m looking at at least $100 from the oil change. If I buy my supplies from Walmart, where I find they’re pretty cheap, I can do this for less than $50 at home.
