2006-2010 Dodge Ram 1500/2500 Oil Change Light Reset Guide

Like most vehicles, the Dodge RAM has a minder light on the cluster to let us know it’s time to change the engine oil after you’ve done your oil change. So today, I’m going to show you how to reset the oil change or maintenance light on the Dodge Ram 1500/2500.

A pretty timely reminder on these Rams you want to change the oil every 6,000 miles with a 5w-20 weight, and you want to go ahead and put a full synthetic in there. Well, at least I recommend that. So let’s get to work.

How To Reset Oil Change Light On Dodge Ram 1500/2500

Time needed: 3 minutes

Here I want to share with all of you how to reset the oil change light on my 2010 Dodge Ram 1500. I thought this may be helpful to some of you other dodge owners. So let me show you what you need to do.

  1. Stick the key in the ignition and turn it to be run position without starting the engine

If your vehicle has an ignition button, press the ENGINE START STOP button twice without touching the brake pedal

  2. Fully depress the GAS PEDAL slowly three times within 10 seconds

Then we’re gonna go ahead and press the gas pedal down three times within 10 seconds, not fast but medium speed

  3. Turn off the car

Turn the ignition off and start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

This procedure work on the third generation of Dodge Ram 1500/2500 (2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 model years).

Dodge Ram Oil Change Tips

To keep your truck in top running condition, you should change the engine oil regularly. Fortunately, there are several different ways you can do that. You can use regular oil or change the oil yourself. It depends on what type of oil you use and how often you drive. Check the oil level often after filling it up. Too much or too little oil can cause your engine to break down. For best results, keep your engine oil at the right level.

Your Dodge RAM 1500 should be serviced at least once every 10,000 miles or 12 months. To determine how often you should do this, consult your owner’s manual. This manual should have information on oil type and recommended intervals. The recommended oil change intervals are listed below. If you notice these signs, it’s time to change the oil. Oil changes also ensure that your engine stays clean and smooth, extending its life.

When choosing engine oil for your Dodge Ram 1500, you should check the manufacturer’s recommended oil. MOPAR is a brand of oil that is designed explicitly for Ram 1500s. Fiat Chrysler recommends this oil, which is available in 5W-20 and 5W-30 viscosity grades. Both meet API requirements. Other recommended oils include Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic oil and Shell Helix Ultra Full Synthetic oil. Although synthetic oils are more expensive than regular oils, they can prolong the life of your engine and make it run smoothly.
