Since its launch in 2002, the microKorg has been one of Korg’s biggest success stories. The new microKorg XL+ is a facelift of the XL, released in 2008. The MicroKorg XL+ has an updated soundset that features Korg’s SGProX piano, M1 and VOX organs, and classic Mellotron sounds. On top of the 128 onboard sounds, Korg has included another 640 sounds that can be loaded for free through the dedicated Editor Librarian software for Mac and PC. This compact package also includes sounds from the M1 and the VOX organ, vintage tape-type string and flute machines, as well as other sounds from keyboard history. Like all the Micro series, the MicroKorg XL+ needs no computer attached to play in the studio or at home.
According to several user reviews, they have praised Korg MicroKorg XL + for the same great MMT synth engine as XL; All new colour schemes; Updated genre-specific sounds. Also, some users have complained it for not the best build quality.
